I'm going to score him statistically on gut-feeling out of 10 on 5 key attributes.

Man-management - 10. Kebe, Long, Leg, Cummings, hunt, Harte...who doesnt he get the best out of?
Transfers - 10... Griffin, Harte, Gorkss, Leigertwood, Le Fondre, J Mills, Manset...Brownie points as he didnt waste time on M Williams and Bongo
Tactics - 10, master plan of 451 with the sig worked, switch to box-box midfield got us to playoffs, team 3s looking tasty now. 3 teams in 3 years.... magician.
Subs - 10 , how many games have we won late on?
Defensive Organisation - 6. Poor, but some mitigation due to lack of settled players and only being able to afford
aging slow players or inexperience quick ones. Needs Wally Downes. To be fair B MC was a winger so no surprise they're our key players.

So out of 100 I score him 92%.

On another note just how good is our Chairman? Great backing to bring in Gorkkss and Alf

Bandini Stats are probably rather more use in helping to evaluate the performance of a manager than of a player.

That's probably true as their role is to win games and so there's a more measurable end result to judge them on.

I would say that a managers ability to get good results is dependant upon a lot of things that aren't measurable or clearly explained by the stats though so its still not a good measure of their ability or the relative success of their time in charge.

I rated McD, but it's surprising to see his record outstripping Coppell for the first 100. And bearing in mind Coppell took over a team that had made the play-offs the year before, was still building and (IIRC) was top two when Pardew left, makes McD's achievement all the more impressive (given that he took over a team down the bottom and has coped with several star players being sold.

But maybe we should all pretend he's not that good - hate to see him poached....

TBF - the only expensive option RFC's ever gone for was Tommy Burns - and look what a crock of shit that turned into.

RIP in peace and all that obviously.

Coppell had to deal with a squad that to a certain extent felt betrayed, in particular the two star signings of the season of Goater and Murray.

Coppell essentially had to completely rebuild the strikeforce given Goater and Forster were on the way out. Then there's Williams, Salako & Brown who were all on the way out too.

There doesn't seem to be a lot between the first permanent hundred games of either IMO. It shouldn't be a great surprise they're similar records because Coppell's first two seasons were 9th and 7th and McDermott's were 9th and 5th.
