HoneyRoastHoax Perhaps proven is the wrong word but he has passed the hammond mcdermott test of being a good enough player.

He has obviously proven himself to be a worthy signing to the club.

Church probably still wouldn't look good in the skandi league

proven enough for a 1M bid

I never said he was proven to a specific amount. He is proven himself worthy of bidding.

Yes you can buy prem players for 3m but as I said if you want top ten finish and looking at Europe you need to be spending money in that region.

I agree with you that its a gamble and they have put a high price tag on him. It will be interesting to see what they do once they open the coffers.

Like BmcD said to AZ get me these players and you can have promotion. He may very well be saying get me this kid and a couple of others and you can have your top 10.

Brendy's point was that he's only passed the hammond mcdermott test of being a good enough player for a 1million bid - as that is what we are rumoured to have bid. whether he's proven himself (in their eyes) to be a worthy signing for any more than that remains to be seen.

and we are all agreeing.

I wonder how many bids are made on average for each player transfer?

alright m8

calm down.

its a discussion board.

i was simply pointing out that buying a load of 3 million pound players isnt always the way to get into the top ten.
but if you want to get all gay about it, ill just agree with you.

Sorry, you're actually a poster I like, I think Im getting hobnobitus

You're right you don't have to spend the mega bucks but the more value on a player generally equates to skill and skill means more points etc.

I bet we don't even get this kid

Without having seen this guy play I cannot comment on whether he might be worth the fee being demanded so I will trust Hammond and McDermott to have made a sensible opening bid.

If no other Clubs bid, the player's Club will accept our initial bid anyway. If another Club has a higher offer accepted then an agent will almost certainly inform RFC and they can decide whether to match it.

Let's also not forget that until the Premier League give permission there is still a doubt over whether the takeover will go through so it may be that we have to keep our spending in line with what we would be able to afford if ownership reverts to SJM.

Ian Royal It's an example, not an evaluation. And when a player like Andy Carroll goes for £35m, it's not unreasonable. Especially seeing as he wouldn't be a player from a crap Scandanavian League at that point, he'd be a proven Premier League player.

Your logic would require Andy Carroll going to Liverpool for £35m to have been reasonable, which it wasn't.

...as was neither the £50m paid by Chelsea to Liverpool for Torres ...just a mad transfer deadline day ...and its fair to say that both Chelsea and Liverpool have an amount of egg-on-face following those deals....although I do think that Carroll will come good ....

agreed re: carrol thought he was superb in the fa cup final - just thought it was a mistake from keeny to leave him out and play quite negatively in the 1st half

No but someone forked out 7m for an unproven player and although hasn't worked out for Siggy, it wasn't his ability that ruined that but poor management. My point was someone was will to fork out that amount on a unproven player.

Sigurdarson scored a hattrick as Lilleström lost 3-4 to Brann tonight - he has now scored 8 goals in his last 4 games in the league and cup.

Funny thing about the hattrick as I've just seen in Icelandic media. Down 3-2, Lilleström put the ball out of play because of an injured Brann player. Upon the throw in Brann score when they're kicking it back to the keeper, ball bounces too high and sails over him. Much discussion ensues, but ultimately 10 of Branns 11 players let Björn Bergmann run by them after the kickoff to go for goal. Only exception being the goalkeeper, who tries to save the effort, but fails.
