The band - good or bad?

by Pandoras Box » 16 Sep 2012 19:13

Sorry to be a party pooper but ffs. Every time Reading put on any pressure in the opponents goal - the atmosphere builds and builds, excitement - yes, cheering - yes until ...............until the bloody band comes in with 'You are my Sunshine, my only sunshine' or 'I'm H-A-P-P-Y, I'm H-A-P-P-Y', I know I am, I'm sure I am' etc...... or something similarly inappropriate and it completely destroys the moment. Can't someone in the North Stand turn those trumpets into wind instruments by sticking them you know where?

Atmosphere and effort from awarding fans me included was pretty awful to be fair. Air of inevitability about it all from the start.

To be honest the beard day band were excellent playing ditties and tunes on impulse.
However from what I saw today the band members were playing music from sheets on music stands!

FFS all that was missing today was Andre bloody Previn!

Yeh- create an atmosphere by all means - but it's not the Morecambe and Wise Show. What next - Benny Hill theme tune when McCleary runs down the wing?

Please ditch the brass brand, but stick with the drummer.
Felt like a village fete....did not encourage me to sing, only to cringe.

Awful, awful, awful. They played at the most inopportune moments and did absolutely nothing in generating an atmosphere. I sit a couple of rows in front and it was cringe-worthy. Lots of people around us (usually the happy clappy crowd) even got frustrated with them. It's a football match FFS, not a village fete or garden party. Please, please, please Reading FC don't ever let them return.

sorry mate but it's pretty sad if the home fans need some annoying blokes with a trumpet and drum to create an atmosphere most fans can't stand that bloody brass band who are at every England game and I dare say in time most Reading fans will feal the same if it continues at the Madejski.

I agree with the above comments - but one well-known commentator did praise them on Twitter :

Is it the same bunch of people who were playing Terry and June etc 10/12 years ago? They were actually enjoyable and got the crowd going. This lot's efforts seemed a little half-hearted.

Crowd only ever respond to what's going out on the pitch. No other intervention will make a blind bit of difference. Oh and for the record even at 0-0 the Reading FC crowd were poor.

For those of us that were going before the bandwagon, Sunday just improved the beard day band's reputation even though it was years ago!
