Sutekh Very sad. So much promise and then it all fell apart. RIP

Anyone from that time able to give an insight as to why it didn't work out. Logically, after that first season, only a small amount of adjustment to the defensive side of the team should have been required to attain promotion?

The following season we basically got sussed out. We played with a lightweight nippy forward line which was unheard of in the lower leagues back then. Suffered injuries early on (due in the main to crude opposition tactics) the loss of form/confidence and it spiralled downwards.

Still shouldn't have gone down though - 2 wins over easter and we looked safe but don't think we won again after that and were relegated at Villa last game of season.

That kit looks ace against Man Utd proper retro 70s. Before my time but he made quite a impact in the two years he was here. R.I.P.

Yes I agree and then it was only due to an own goal by centre forward Terry Bell and the ref not spotting that as he went up to head the corner kick clear he was pushed in the back by a Villa forward with the result that the ball hit the back of his head and went in.

Whilst I had been an occasional visitor to Elm Park prior to Jack Mansells reign it was the exciting brand of football that his teams produced that hooked me and led to my life long love affair with the club. I also loved the blue and white hoops that he reintroduced. Much better than the non descript pale blue kit that they wore when I first visited Elm Park.

Thanks Jack for the brilliant memories and for giving me something that has endured to this day. RIP.

Yep. White shorts y'see. RFC kit should always be white and blue hooped shirts and white shorts. End of.

Agree, just don't understand why the club don't get that.

They might not want to waste the shorts, as it were, because repeated muddying on the generally shite Championship pitches probably means that they can only wear them a couple of times before they stop being pristine white.

Or, they may be trying to make the current combination the 'new' look, with the blue shorts and red flashes and numbers.

One wonders just how the club managed in the 1970s...

Exactly. Whatever the reason is, I'm sure it's a bollocks one and they clearly just don't want to have white shorts, otherwise we would.
