Happy with this, much better than a 19 year old novice, you would think he is coming her as first choice and a kick in the bollocks for Southwood.

Hound Flicking through his wiki page etc it’s about as good a signing as we could hope for on paper

200 odd games experience and played in the champ and prem
only let in 6 goals in his last first team game….he’ll do for me

Far from it. The goalkeeping coaches I've spoken to about him all said he was a decent keeper and better than Southwood. In my own opinion he played pretty well in the few games he had with us and seemed to inspire more confidence in his team mates.

Just because someone is 'one of our own' doesn't mean they are ready/right for our current situation. It will be great if Southwood comes really good for us either now or in a future season but he may well end up being one of those promising keepers who struggles to make an impression at the higher levels of the game.

And for an objective comparison take a look at the goals conceded and points gained over the five games Hein played and compare to goals conceded and points gained over Southwood's last five games!

My worry about Southwood is that he's 24 and his last 2 contracts have been for 1 year and 2 years. That suggests to me that the club aren't convinced and don't see him as a long term No1.

He only signed a one year deal in August and they brought in Freddie Woodman in January - and even he is just warming the bench. Nyland would have left them in the summer any way so made sense for all parties for him to leave in Jan to try and find first team football somewhere.

Brogue just spoke to my Fußball-Club Ingolstadt 2004 e.V. supporting mate and he said he's a decent keeper and should do well for us.

That is pretty random!

Pepe the Horseman On paper he's a decent signing. Although just had this from my Villa supporting m8

He’s an average shot stopper and he might have a worldie once in every 20 or so games, but he’s one of the most unnatural goalkeepers I’ve ever seen. He doesn’t look comfortable in goal.

Ask him what he's like dealing with crosses.

At what level has your "Villa supporting m8" played at before to make such a judgement?
