I think he was best during his initial loan spell in CM. I think we've tried to do that at times, but probably a combination of factors (including fitness as mentioned) has meant he hasn't been able to perform to his level. I don't think he's a wide player, not even coming inside off that channel.
But I don't think he suits how he play and I don't really think it's worth persisting with him. Even a loan deal away for half a season to help trim our wage bill so we can get someone in for the remainder of the season would be good enough business for me. Not sure we'd get a permanent transfer for him, but if we did I'd honestly take a hit on the price just to clear his wages as well.
Ejaria spent most of his loan spell playing off the right/left, not in CM
Credit to him, he works hard and makes a number of interceptions. But I thought he was massively overrated in his loan spell here and nothing he’s done since (aside from the odd spell here and there) has convinced otherwise
His first loan spell in 18/19? The stats I'm looking at show 16 games, 11 games in CM/AM, 4 games on the left and 1 game on the right. In the first half of that season when he was at Rangers, he spent every game he played in CM/AM for them in the league and Europe.
At this point I'd probably take a million for him and just clear his wages, utilise that money elsewhere and bring someone else in if we can, or worst case scenario tie down Carroll and Mbengue to longer deals as well.
Not sure that adds up as Swift very much had the shirt as the CAM until the last month before he went off injured, with similarly Baker and Rinomhota taking the CM spots. Could be mistaken mins
I do seem to recall under Gomes playing a bit of a floating system where the likes of Barrett, Loader, Olise, Ejaria etc ended up in various places of the pitch
His best spell came on the left under Bowen and that week under Gomes. I don’t think it’s ever helped that he hasn’t found a settled position
