Ince served his longest managerial stint with us. He's an antonym of longevity as managers go.AthleticoSpizz wrote:Yes…and lots of people were wanting a manager with longevity…one who had chased the ‘loser mentality ’ out of the team. Funnily enough, his name began with a P, and ended with an Ince.
Things change, especially the convenience and timing of it all for some here.

He had about as loser a mentality of any Reading Manager for 30 years.

I don’t think anyone said any of our signings were ‘great’ signings. More that they could be ok. Hendrick might have been good but we all knew he’d had a poor couple of years. Fornah could have been good but it was always a step up for him Etc etcSnowflake Royal wrote:Not long ago the consensus was our midfield was much improved on last season.
Lots of our signings were apparently very good at the start of the season.
There's a lot of people who are changing their tune to make out we've always been rubbish this season.
Not long ago the same people.were claiming we were a clear mid-table side.

correct, and how many our ‘our’ players will be here next season?….not many……are they really that bothered?Hound wrote:I don’t think anyone said any of our signings were ‘great’ signings. Fwiw don’t think the midfield is much different either way. It was crap last year as well. I don’t remember anyone saying it’s much better than last year this year.
I think the majority view was we were a lower mid table side
Not sure what the point is anyway. That Ince is crap? Not sure there is a huge debate there. Maybe degrees of badness. That the players are actually good and all our managers and coaches have just been useless, and just some better tactics and all would be fine? Not sure that is true

We should acknowledge though that having players of equivalent ability doesn't mean that you had the same 'quality' of midfield. There is a clear benefit from players that have spent time playing together and complement each other's playing style. Lampard and Gerrard are basically the two best English midfielders in the last 20 years, but they were not very good when playing in the same side.Hound wrote:I don’t think anyone said any of our signings were ‘great’ signings. Not like those departing midfielders have exactly set the world alight either bar a little Laurent run of form

If Ince, or they, are remembered it'll be the same way Bullivant is.

I think we're all just aware that Ince was sapping the life out of the team and Noel is the perfect antidote with his upbeat attitude.Millsy wrote:Welcome to Basic Reading FC
