Titbits

by Brogue » 15 Aug 2025 08:16

Told a couple of things yesterday

1.’ Interesting news regarding Ferguson, been with us for 2 weeks, his fitness is a concern. Set to play the next 2 u21 games and if he gets through unscathed and fine he will sign. All agreed already.’

2.’ Ritchie been holding out for champ club/more money but general feeling is that he’s decided to join us but not confirmed. Bowler interest will drop if we get him, he wants a lot of money’

3.’ Told Wing should be fine for Saturday’

4. Now this one is interesting… ‘ We’re allowed to sign one more foreign player, As we met the criteria for home grown players last year so we get 1 extra spot’

That goes against what Brian and JJ said at the fan event at the purple turtle where they said we have used our two wildcards already. So either they were being loose with the truth, or they have dug a little deeper into what we can do and subsequently found out we can sign someone else. Either way that could open up a much wider base of players we can shop for.

5. Scarr not signing, he wants to stay up north

6. Williams should be announced today.

Thanks

Brogue

Also is this so many foreigners/wildcard thing new?
What is considered foreign? Anyone born outside the UK? Is Rep of Ireland not foreign then?
Who are our foreigners JP and Kyerewaa?
Doesn’t Elliot play for Cameroon, or does he not count cos he was born in UK?

1.’ Interesting news regarding Ferguson, been with us for 2 weeks, his fitness is a concern. Set to play the next 2 u21 games and if he gets through unscathed and fine he will sign. All agreed already.’

That’s Norwich (a) this weekend and Leicester (h) next weekend

2.’ Ritchie been holding out for champ club/more money but general feeling is that he’s decided to join us but not confirmed. Bowler interest will drop if we get him, he wants a lot of money’

That’s Bowler who wants the lot of money I presume?

3.’ Told Wing should be fine for Saturday’

4. Now this one is interesting… ‘ We’re allowed to sign one more foreign player, As we met the criteria for home grown players last year so we get 1 extra spot’

Derrick from Atalanta - does he count as the “foreign” player?

Thanks

Been in Since Brexit.

After 5 years of living in the country you get a British passport so they would no longer be classed a foreigner.

Irish players would be classed as foreigners yes, if they didn’t have a British passport.

Elliott was born in Kingston upon Thames.

Williams holds a British passport

Our two wildcards are Fraser and Kyerewaa

JP holds a British passport

Edit: Williams appears to not hold a British passport by googling. But that could be wrong,I dunno, and I dunno how it works. Maybe he will be a wild card, but he signed for Aston Villa as a youth in 2009 and played in England right through to 2021. Surely he has some sort of British documentation that would mean he’s isn’t a foreigner. But Fcuk knows.

JP was signed by United as a youth and has been here similar amount of time. He signed a new contract this year so he obviously isn’t being classed as a foreigner. So if JP isn’t I very much doubt Williams is.

UK and Ireland have an agreement whereby nationals of one country can work in the other without a visa, so any Irish player would be treated as a domestic player.

Would Canada being part of the commonwealth be as good as a British passport anyway?

Ok great so Williams definitely isn’t a wildcard then

So do Reading have another foreign player in mind?

Wow, that's a lot of information in a short space of time, thanks Brogue.

Seems like the realism of being a mid-table league 1 team taking effect. Financials making life hard, not big enough to lure talent away from their home towns etc.

Interesting to see how many options the club looks at before a signing actually happens.

Didn't Bowler sign a month ago, a couple of weeks before Ritchie and Cole?

Sorry to be a dick about it, but credibility has been harmed.

I believe Bowler has been confirmed at least 3 times.

just put me on the iggy list if you don't want to see my posts. or just don't open my threads, it's pretty simple. its not like I'm spamming all the threads across the board. All my posts are confined to here, The rumours and gossip page ,where they should be. You either believe i have credibility or you don't. makes no difference to me. I'd say the number of ones I've got right, like the obscure bloke from Germany in particular proves my credibility, you don't just get lucky with ones like that. but whatever. I just pass the information on that i'm told. i was told Bowler was done so i posted it on here. turns out he wasn't. Welcome to the unpredictability of football transfers where you live and die by the sword.

That's not the experience I recall from watching ice hockey over here - the Canadians were usually dual-UK/EU (pre-Brexit) nationals.

I presume it's not a British passport/citizenship that matters here. Residency for a certain period would entitle a player to apply for permanent leave to remain, without the need to apply for full citizenship. So Williams might have PLR (and therefore have the right to work without a visa) without holding a British passport.
