windermereROYAL Barnsley`s first goal looked offside.

I came on here to post the same, and was surprised it hadn't been mentioned. The linesman was a bit behind play, probably because Barnsley got the ball forward very quickly in that move. Also it was close, so an understandable error on his part.

At the time, and from the other end, I thought McGoldrick wasn't celebrating too much because it was an own goal. But now I reckon it's because he thought he might have been flagged.

Very hard to see in real time, I think we'd barely be discussing it pre VAR decade ago.

Everything about yesterday was mid-table from two mid table sides with us having the better of the first half and them the better of the second ,we having 3 shots on target and them 2 plus 1 hitting the woodwork

Looking at the table today we are 3 points ahead of Barnsley but they have 3 games in hand.
We are 20 points off the top and 18 points off the bottom but more relevant perhaps we are 6 points off the very last play-off spot (although 10 points off 5th) and 7 points off the final relegation place.

It is looking unlikely that we will feature in either of the two issues of promotion or relegation so now it seems like a case of building for next season with the 2 new full-backs doing well in their first appearances.

As another poster said, it is that we only started with one player who came through our very expensive academy and the average age of our starting line-up is older but hopefully the experience of those older heads can be combined going forward with the energy and enthusiasm of youth.

Snowflake Royal Marriott's first touch? That's ridiculous. He kept laying off good balls to people in good positions.

I`ve always held hound in high regard, but that`s just about the most ridiculous post I`ve ever seen him put on here. good lord.has somebody hacked your account?
The Keane chance was his first touch when he didn`t quite get enough on a cross from Danny K.
Specsavers Monday morning mate.

I’m being facetious obvs. But he barely contributed in the rest of the game

It’s fine if all he can offer is 1 good finish a game - great and good for him. But we cant have sustained success with him up top on his own imo and need to change the system or we’ll continue to get disappointing performances and results

Stick Keane up alongside him and maybe we’ll improve

You're so one eyed with Marriott it's beyond belief.

Played in on goal early first half, good control, prevented from getting a shot off by great defending which got us a corner. More key passes leading to shots than anyone else who featured for us. A goal.

10 (TEN) goals in 13 starts, his strike rate is unbelievable, he scores a goal every 116 minutes he plays. Three assists, which is joint second in the squad. Averages just under one shot creating pass a game, and you've been on his back from day one.

I don’t ‘hate’ him and I’ve never said he shouldn’t start. You can check back from my lineups in each match thread. He just isn’t suited to being the one man up top, esp when Doyle is the man behind. Which I’ve consistently said

Marriotts finishing is genuinely the best I’ve ever seen in the last couple of months. It’s superb

But that doesn’t mean you can comment on other areas of his play and how it affects the team does it?

He completed 4 of 7 attempted passes yesterday, lost possesion 6 times, didn’t win one aerial. You can’t have that from a target man. Hence why I’ve suggested Keane up top with him and a change of system

He isn’t a never will be tbe type of player to hold the ball up and be an out ball. But because we play like he is one we struggle to create chances, keep the ball upfield and ever get any pressure in the opposition

And that’s why imo we won’t be successful this season

I don’t think that’s unreasonable or one eyed

I agree - but we’ve tried to build a squad with the expectation of among the play offs and are carrying a lot of players. If we don’t make the play offs it’s a failure tbh

We’ll have to see on tbe academy players. Maybe they’ll be loaned out with a view to playing next season. Or they may just get binned which makes the last couple of years of the academy an expensive failure also

We had a good shot at the POs and may have just blown it with two poor performances against Orient and Barnsley

Just seen the highlights, clearly offside for me and the lino was very much in line with it.

Sutekh
Clyde1998 I thought Dorsett had a good game too, especially considering his shift from left-back to centre-back.

But then centre back is his normal position.

It's his most comfortable position, but he's mainly played left-back for us since coming into the first team (albeit out of necessity) and I still would've expected a bit of an adjustment period. I imagine he'll be our left-sided centre-back until Derrick Williams becomes available again.

Big fan of the poster who welcomed his arrival with the phrase "he's had a goalectomy"
