He is under contract and has come through the Academy and so the buyer would have to either agree a fee or pay compensation.Pepe the Horseman wrote:If he's OOC in the summer can't Brugge just sign him on a pre-contract?

Believe so yes. Would still have to pay a development fee, but think those are usually set amounts.Pepe the Horseman wrote:If he's OOC in the summer can't Brugge just sign him on a pre-contract?

That only applies when the club is based in England:andrew1957 wrote:He is under contract and has come through the Academy and so the buyer would have to either agree a fee or pay compensation.Pepe the Horseman wrote:If he's OOC in the summer can't Brugge just sign him on a pre-contract?
Compensation Fee Tribunal [The FA] wrote:In the event of a player, who is under the age of 24 prior to 30th June 2025, not accepting an offer of re-engagement and subsequently signing on contract or non-contract terms for a new Club in England, the two Clubs must agree a compensation fee. If the player has attained the age of 24 on or before 30th June 2025 and his contract has expired, no compensation fee can be claimed by the former Club. In addition, no compensation is payable if the player moves abroad. However, Training Compensation may be due in accordance with FIFA Regulations (see article set out below).

Hoping now that the Dai mess is gone the club will start being able to manage contracts for players like Andre better just so there’s more protection for the club.
The Chronicle’s report on it
£2m would be much more than I would expect, but, as WestYorksRoyal says, the sell-on fee would be by far the biggest thing from any deal. The current value of the player is estimated to be around £2 million, with no official figure being reported for the package proposed by Club Brugge.

I'm told were getting a fee for sure, but no mention of the size (which speaks for itself, I think). £2m? Not a chance IMO.Clyde1998 wrote:Sutekh wrote:Another rather decent young player the club will most likely get naff all for![]()

As ever these stupid things are not all encompassing and for some stupid reason it only applies to moving between clubs of different associations so if Andre moves to a club in England or Wales it’s down to Reading to agree compensation with the purchasing club or for a tribunal to set but if he moves to Scotland or somewhere else in the world FIFA have laid out exactly what is payable and how much.Clyde1998 wrote:That only applies when the club is based in England:andrew1957 wrote:He is under contract and has come through the Academy and so the buyer would have to either agree a fee or pay compensation.Pepe the Horseman wrote:If he's OOC in the summer can't Brugge just sign him on a pre-contract?Compensation Fee Tribunal [The FA] wrote:In the event of a player, who is under the age of 24 prior to 30th June 2025, not accepting an offer of re-engagement and subsequently signing on contract or non-contract terms for a new Club in England, the two Clubs must agree a compensation fee. Using FIFA's calculator, it seems we'd get €183,960 in 'training compensation' for Garcia based on the earliest match in the TransferMarkt database (an U18 game against Arsenal in January 2024). If he was at the club from younger than twelve, we'd get €316,930.Sutekh wrote:As ever these stupid things are not all encompassing and for some stupid reason it only applies to moving between clubs of different associations so if Andre moves to a club in England or Wales it’s down to Reading to agree compensation with the purchasing club or for a tribunal to set but if he moves to Scotland or somewhere else in the world FIFA have laid out exactly what is payable and how much.Clyde1998 wrote:That only applies when the club is based in England:andrew1957 wrote:

Despite this compensation is always payable if a player is transferred before the age of 23
Think that compensation is calculated based on what it would cost the “purchasing” club to train an individual each year, therefore the longer a player has been in a club’s youth/academy system the more money they would get.
I’ve no idea when Andre joined Reading’s youth set up, he could have been as young as 6 or 7 or as old as 16 or 17.
Compensation is only based on a maximum period of 9 years (between a player’s 12th and 21st birthdays).
Therefore if would cost the “purchasing” club €10000 per year to develop/educate/train an individual and Andre joined Reading’s youth set up when he was 13 then Reading would receive €50000 in compensation (5 years from the age of 13 until his age at time of transfer (18)).
Though it’s really a pittance, it remains payable every time that a player moves up until the end of the season of their 23rd birthday. Therefore if Andre then moved to another club every year until he was 23 Reading would receive further compensation payments based on the same 5 year calculation.
Further to all this FIFA also define a mechanism for a solidarity payment which means clubs training a player will receive a percentage of all future transfer fees paid for that player. Therefore should Michael Olise be subject of a €100m transfer in the summer Reading would get a small portion of that, something along the lines of a fractional % for each year he was at the club so if he did move for €100m Reading should get a couple of million out of it too!

Exactly. I imagine it will be 'nominal', plus a sell on fee (hopefully sizable: 30%+).Who Moved The Goalposts? wrote:I'm told were getting a fee for sure, but no mention of the size (which speaks for itself, I think). £2m? Perhaps; that could certainly be a factor as to why he's not featured too much this season. He did start the season well though.WestYorksRoyal wrote:It does feel a bit disappointing. He's one of our higher potential players who could be worth a lot more if we develop him. On another thread I pushed back strongly on the idea that we should be priorising youth over signings like Roberts and Nyambe, but I think with the squad as it is, there is space for Garcia. He could be competing with Ritchie and Lane to come off the bench and impact games or occasionally start. Or we could be exploring loans at this stage with an eye on next season.
Perhaps he has no interest in staying and so this is the only option. Disappointing either way.

I do wonder if he's been injured at some point (or has had fitness issues), because he's recently made some sporadic appearances for the U21s recently when he's not been involved in the first team squad (we've lost all of them however).

Indeed (getting sent off for violent conduct, no less), especially as he looked like he was improving and enjoying playing in a more advanced role.morganb wrote:It's a shame his last action in a Reading shirt was to get sent off for the UndersClyde1998 wrote:Perhaps; that could certainly be a factor as to why he's not featured too much this season.
