Brum are going to do it aren't they? No surprise really although I always thought it would be the financial advantage of going Prem>Championship that would do for us, not Champ>L1

14 points leeway with 18 games to go.

A few draws, the odd loss as they cross the line.

Totally irrelevant tho’, Brum aren’t going to get 106 points in the Championship (not this season at least).

I’ll cling to that

As Birmingham move towards our record, I'm reminded that we actually drew five of our last nine in 05/06. We 'should' really have finished 110+.

We did surprisingly poorly (relatively speaking) against top teams that season too, especially given how well we did in the following Premier League season. Of our thirteen draws, eight came against the top eight; our two defeats were against mid-table sides.

  1. Reading - H / A
  2. Sheff Utd - W / D
  3. Watford - D / D
  4. Preston - W / W
  5. Leeds - D / D
  6. Crystal Palace - W / D
  7. Wolves - D / W
  8. Coventry - W / D
  9. Norwich - W / W
  10. Luton - W / L
  11. Cardiff - W / W
  12. Southampton - W / D
  13. Stoke - W / W
  14. Plymouth - L / W
  15. Ipswich - W / W
  16. Leicester - W / D
  17. Burnley - W / W
  18. Hull - W / D
  19. Sheff Wed - W / D
  20. Derby - W / D
  21. QPR - W / W
  22. Crewe - W / W
  23. Millwall - W / W
  24. Brighton - W / W

When you've spent over 6 times the rest of the league combined, you'd think you would cruise past the record.

I see Burnley have now gone 10 games without conceding a goal. 900 minutes our EFL record is 1103 78-79 :(

I think it is now nearing odds on Birmingham will do it. Somewhat sad it was them in a poor league but I suppose it was always gonna be something like that.

It'll all come down to whether they keepgoing to the end, after they've already been promoted. Having to fit in another couple of games on most other teams may play a part too.

We were 3 points ahead of them at this point, so they have to finish stronger than we did.

Not to mention that we'd played 29 games by late January, by now we'd got through about 34 games, so they've got to fit a lot more into the end of the season... and we picked up 11 out of 15 points in those 5 games.

By my mathing, Steve Death's EFL record is 1074 minutes.
James Trafford last conceded in the 80th minute of the Watford game, that plus 11 games = 1000 minutes.

So if he keeps a clean sheet until at least the 75th minute then he breaks the EFL record, suppose Death would still retain the record in tier 4 but it keeps losing value starting when Van der Sar first broke the overall record.

Do those minutes include "added on time" at the end of BOTH halves? If not why not? If the golaie had let one in during that time, the goal would have counted and the count to the record would have stopped, wouldn't it?

I don't think so because added on time is to make up for the time lost due to stoppages so play time is meant to still only be 90 minutes.

That said I tried to add up Van der Sar's record to see if that reasoning matched up to the recorded 1311 minutes, he last conceded in the 48th minute of a 2-1 loss to Arsenal, so 42 minutes there, it ended after 32 minutes of a 2-1 win against Blackburn, so in total 74 minutes, plus 14 clean sheets between, another 1260 minutes, plus the additional 74 is 1334 minutes, which weirdly doesn't add up, it would be even more extreme if you included additional time.

Not quite done yet - I expect they will heavily rotate once they are there. They are 2 games behind everyone, and are through to the EFL Trophy final, so that's another weekend out and we have the 2 week international break next month. They must be playing every midweek just about.

I blame the commentators and stadium announcers for this. It's not really 'added time' (there is never more than 90 minutes active play in a normal game i.e. non-cup with potential extra time). It's actually stoppage time, replacing time lost due to stoppages earlier in the game.
