andrew1957 From the OS. Indicates to me that there will not be a lot of activity in January and that Brian is confident his job is safe. We shall see.

He's hardly going to say "yeah we need to buy" cos it will (a) piss the current lot off and (b) raise the price of players we go in for

I think we only need 2 or 3 players come January. I don't care if we purchase them or get them on loan. We need 1, or maybe 2 depending what happens with Guthrie, CM. If Pearce's contract can't get sorted we would need another CB. The 3 who are playing now have shown they can play at this level, a 4th would be very welcome...preferably Pearce though. Another striker would be nice though right now we don't seem to be having the trouble scoring most of the "experts" thought we would at the beginning of the year.

As far as who? People have mentioned Sidwell and I couldn't agree more that he would be a great addition to this team. Might we get Gylfi on loan from Tottenham? A very long shot but he is rotting on the bench behind Dempsey, deservedly or not, so Spurs might be willing to let him go out on loan...that is a very big might. But as far as "who" is concerned I am sure Hammond and McDermott have people in mind to bring in and most likely players we haven't even mentioned yet.

This team isn't that far away. Tabb and Morrison have been revelations so far. A couple of players I think many of us had doubts about in terms of being able to play at this level at the beginning of the season but have shown they can do it in the Premier League. Robson-Kanu has proven himself too. The game tying goal against Fulham and a very solid game against Everton even though he didn't get on the score sheet.

Who and how many we bring in depends a lot on what happens between now and the end of the calendar year. But up to the time of this post we have got results in 7 of our 11 league games so far, and finally a long overdue first victory. This team is not that far off from being a team which will survive rather comfortably this season. We just need those 2 or 3 players, who fit in with our style, to get us to that level of comfort...relatively speaking.

transfer speculation... I love it!

by JamieY26 » 19 Nov 2012 09:50

Iv heard whispers of potential signing of great players (by our standards anyway!). The likes of Arshavin, Sidwell and today Drenthe. I think it makes the build up to the January windown pretty exciting! Yet every single one get met with negativity! What makes this even worse is that the same people are probably the ones who are slagging off the current team and demanding change. Im not saying we should start banding around ridiculous names like Messi or even fairly standard prem names, but surely not every name that gets put out there is a terrible idea?! Especially when there are circumstances that puts them potentially within our reach.

So, just curious. Who would be a good and realistic target for January that won't make all you negative nellys squrm!... Or is it just the Reading Way.

In order:

Solid all-rounder in midfield, creative midfielder
Good quality CB
Decent RB
Striker

Happy to ditch the bottom three in the list for a decent amount of cash going into the first one. We've been barren in the middle for too long.

Mendy from Le Harve - Very young at the minute but mark my words he will be a top defender within the next 5 years.

i would be happy if they spent most of our janurary spending on a creative midfielder. its where we need the most improvement to create chances and goals. i wonder what the chances of us getting gylfi on loan would be? :D

What chances for the team in January to be;

McArthy
Pearce, Morro, Ledge, Shorey
Karacan, Sig, Sidwell
Roberts, Pog, Alf

Subs;

Feds, Gor, MCle, Macca, Kebe

With Pearce at RB and Ledge in central defence? None, hopefully.

If we did things right in the summer, we wouldn't have to keep panic buying in January. You'd have thought lessons would have been learned by now.

Same old mistakes, over and over.

That's a summer job for me.

I'm most interested in midfield and a CB if Pearce won't sign and stays out the team.
