Royal Lady Because some people are blinkered and won't give credit where it's due cos a player once reacted badly to not being included in the team - allegedly. McD handled him appallingly, tho I say so myself. He gave 100% yesterday and he impressed me when he was given chances last season.

yep really. Gave countless easy ball away, and moaned at other players a lot. I'm sure he was key in the second half.he upped his game, and forced his presence onto the game, I was impressed. He put a massive shift in and was involved in everything, all over the pitch. But he was last seasons Guthrie in the first half.MmmMonsterMunchmelonheadJano not getting the guthrie love in. his passing was wayward at best and still too many mistakes and strops for my liking - still two moments of class driving forward did lift the crowd. .
100% agreed. Did less than nothing first half except give easy ball away and moaning. Tbf he improved massively 2nd half, and the extra effort from him and Roy was key in getting the win,but I was/am amazed to hear he was mom
Really? IMO he was quite clearly MOM - in 1st & 2nd half. He did ping a few out of play but nearly every one almost came off - he had the right idea & was always looking for an incisive pass I thought.
On yesterday's showing he'd be the first name on the team sheet.

More of the 2nd half Guthrie and I'm sure he'll get a mom from me. This week I thought mcleary was the most creative and influential player across the whole 90 mins.

mambo3 I will be honest and say we were slighly better than last season but we still cannot hold on to the ball for a long period and we still hoof the ball. I watched WIGAN + QPR on the box and i am worried for us. The championship is not going to be as easy as some people think and i dont think we can buy our way back into the Premiership The most dangerous Reading Players in the game yesterday was Jay Tabb and he was playing for Ipswich and Macarthy saving our skins. I say it again bring on the kids they have the desire and they definatly have the Technique and flair to make an impact. Why was Jordan Obita not given "time on the pitch" where is Dominic Samuel? How do you get experience keeping the subs seat warm. I wont question the Reading Players commitment but take a risk and bring in some fresh blood from the academy rather then just talking about it. In my day once you got through your apprentiship in any job and started as a skilled worker you either "sank or swam", no difference i believe.

MmmMonsterMunchsandman Look if Reading had a more, for want of a better word, committed fans rather than a nice middle class, synchronised clapping, two team supporting fanbase then I dare say it would've required far more for Guthrie to do to be forgiven for his actions. According to the Post's sports reporter he himself has admitted he thought he'd have had to do a lot more than he has done to gain trust again.
If he has a good consistent season then I may consider forgiving him but right now he still hasn't done enough.
Forgive him for what exactly - has he killed someone?

Royal Lady Where were you last season? McD didn't play him and he got the arse. It was then reported that he refused to travel. McD was quoted as saying he needed to sort his head out. Guthrie made a public apology - mcD, having bought him in, gave him little chance in the team. When he did play, and under Adkins mostly, I could see he could be a real asset to us. The "allegedly" I wrote is to do with the stuff I just wrote. I then said I thought McD had handled him appallingly. Hth.

The Real Sandhurst Royal A lot of praise for Guthrie on this thread which I can understand.
He he was in the game, working hard in midfield for the team, scored a great goal, yet his passing and distribution at times was very poor as he continually tried to hit the 30 yard cross field glory ball which was cut out by the Ipswich defence instead of laying off a simple pass.
