Seems to reads like pure AI. Doesn't even mention Reading in the text!

Despite his undeniable talent and potential, the goalkeeper has struggled to find consistent playing time in recent seasons.

it seems there are offers from Wycombe Hull and Casa Pia on the table? Would really hate him to leave as he's been so integral to our team this season. He certainly has ability beyond league one but hopefully he buys into the dream/project to play at a higher level with us.

Can't see why he's go to Hull or Wycombe over us, Hull are a basket case in waiting and we're a much better prospect than Wycombe.

Casa Pia are an interesting one and the chance to play in the top flight in his home country must be attractive but considering most of the money in Portuguese football goes to the big 3 and Casa Pia average crowds of 2,600, he'd earn more with us.

Hull are Championship though. Championship wages.

Players and managers don't care a lot about basket case.

Did Wycombe throw their hat in the ring just for the LOL value?

Agree Hull being a basket case may not put him off, but being asked to sign without guarantees of a no.1 spot certainly will. He's 28 so has another 7 or 8 years at his peak as a GK, and his contract after this one may well be his biggest. He's finally got stability and a no.1 spot and it would be madness to sign up for 2 years on the bench now.

Championship has way more eyes on it than L1, which has very few eyes on it. If you believe you can put in good performances at a basket case Championship club then your chances of moving somewhere better are much greater than if you play in L1. Also only takes 1 good season in the Champ to realise your dream (Hull just missed out on the play offs the season before last)

But this only makes sense if he'll be playing. Do we know if Hull have a no.1 vacancy? Going to provide cover/competition is a step backwards for him.

Hull's number one is a guy called Ivor Pandur 24 year old Croatian.
On 6 May 2025, Hull announced that Pandur had won the Player of the Year award, Players' Player of the Year award, and Supporters' Player of the Year award for the 2024–25 season

So there you go. He can stay at a top L1 club and continue in his first no.1 role, or join a basket case Championship club who may well get relegated and try to unseat player of the season.

If Hull sell him the calculus changes I guess.

Players will mostly back themselves to make a chance and take it. Certainly over not even trying and wondering what might have been

It does make you wonder sometimes how this is structured - for example, if you were signed as a first-choice keeper on £5k per week, would a backup keeper be signed for £3k per week? Or would they both be signed for £3k per week and there's a match bonus and/or clean sheet bonus which would make up the difference for 'best' keeper?

Professional sportsfolk have a ludicrously delusional sense of self belief

Likely means nothing but appears he is on holiday with Wing at the moment - clearly a close relationship there which may sway decisions if money offered isn't wildly different elsewhere.

This. Wing is very highly thought of by both players and management alike. He is key, which is why they wanted him on board for longer. He may well also have another role in the club, from what I've heard.

Perhaps not quite so much with goalkeepers where there is only one position to compete for and if you don't get that position your only opportunities to get onto the pitch during the game arise through an injury or sending off.

Also look at how many years and attempts it took Joel to get cemented into a number one position.

Such a good point you made it twice

It is clear that Wing is a big part of what we want the club to stand for so was key to get him tied down almost before signing anyone else. Interesting in what his other role is - officially or unofficially.

It really wouldn't surprise me if Wing ends his career with us and even move into the coaching side here (if he chooses that path).

Yep - a lot of noise on Twitter last night saying it was done.
