I wasn't sold on the media dude when he joined - but I've been impressed. Lots more content, and crucially it's far more open, we'd have never heard anything apart from rumours re:Knibbs/how many more we want in a few years ago. He's clearly been given reasonable licence to ask the big questions, and it's refreshing.

Seems a different approach to media this season....yesterday would normally have been a press conference at Bearwood for local journos but it seems the club put out a comms with Noel instead.

Hardly heard anything from Earnshaw & co all week, they're even more behind the clock than usual.

Haven't seen his match commentary, but yep, his interviews with Hunt have been excellent.

On a related note, don't know why they didn't get Phil to host the Purple Turtle event. That Sam Michael is dreadful. Hard to believe he's a fan or a comedian. The Q&A questions were mostly to both Brian and Joe, yet he only asked one of them, apart from which was their favourite takeaway.

On the subject of journalists. Anyone know who the American journalist fella was?

I think he said his name was Josh Lewin - or something like that. Has been shadowing the club and is going to get our story out there in America. Not sure if the club have invited him in, or he just got wind of the situation and decided it is a good story to tell. Think probably the former.

Seemed to like a drink!

Hypothetically, if Cole and Ritchie were to come through the door, where would people stand on the hyperbole about having a strong squad on Day 1?

What hyperbole? Shows he was telling the truth all along and we were right to believe him.

Exactly what I meant really, given the doom and gloom after the Pompey match and the Bowler interest dragging out,

Quite frankly, if Lane and Ritchie were the back up option for Bowler, I think we dodged a bullet.

I still think we lack pace at the back but we've plugged 3 major holes in O'Connor, Jacob and Burns and the rest is really what the academy should be providing. Apparently Lane is superb at tracking back as well and he's played LWB for Northern Ireland so that should help.

Yeh, I was kind of joking. Still think he could've managed expectations a little better, but certainly looking a lot more promising than a week ago. And even a couple of days ago there was a sense of dread going into the first game, but the mood has completely changed now. Also think the chat with JJ and Carey helped a lot, both very likeable and easy to get behind.

Yeh interesting that Lane and Ritchie can both play WB. Maybe a pacey CB is still on the cards.

I figured your post was a bit tongue in cheek.

Dorsett's got a bit of pace and made his debut (at Rochdale) 4 years ago. It's make or break for him though this season and his injury record isn't great. Rochdale's the only place he got regular game time and he did really well there.

Yeh would be good to see him have a decent run at CB.

That's him

Bit more than just a freelancing newspaper hack then, would suggest he could actually get some decent attention stateside.

Reading that did make me think he might give Tim & Mick a run for their money.

Given that Couhig says he wants to raise our profile Stateside, je seems a pretty established person to have involved.

Yep, JJ introduced me to Josh at the Bearwood Open Day as I know someone in the football (soccer) media stateside who is a lifelong Royals fan and is happy to provide assistance promoting the club in the US. They also have plans to try to increase JJ's exposure in the US so that he can push the Reading FC narrative.

In other news, the club have appointed Neil Peters in some form of Managing Director role. Once employed by Wycombe Wanderers and now more recently of Newcastle Racecourse. Believe he is working very closely with Joe Jacobson but more off the pitch stuff.

Plans to move Royal Ascot to the deserted speedway track next door perhaps?
