Richard Osman is much more reliable arbiter than is UEFA and Gibraltar don't qualify.

Clyde1998 Interesting to see that Spain voted Gibraltar in

Weird! What was the motivation for that?

Spain and Gibraltar will be kept apart in qualifying draws - similar to what happens with Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Georgia and Russia. Spain won't play Gibraltar and thus Gibraltar won't affect them.

If Morroco and Spain both qualify for the World Cup in the future, will they be kept apart?

I ask because Spain has 2 parcels of land in Morroco that Morroco wants back, and which the Spanish get VERY upset about when this is pointed out to them whenever they start demanding Gibraltar's return...

Stuka GB is simply the geographical island which England, Scotland, and Wales form part of. It annoyed me (well not really) that the Olympic team is called Team GB when there's no such legal entity as Great Britain any more since Ireland joined the Union, and part of it remains so. Great Britain used to be a specific country but not any more.

Anyway back on topic- if Gibraltar football team plays Andorra would the game be in Barcelona and thus Spain? Andorra seem to play some of their games there at Espanyol's ground. The Catalonians wouldn't mind of course, judging by the Gib FA's facebook page they are getting a lot of congratulatory messages from up there.

- Team GB came from the squad that went to the 1996, with some help by a marketing person on the trip, I think it was the drier GB&NI before then and the official name is still the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic Team. I think.

- It was only a single country for around one hundred years - 1707 when Scotland went bankrupt over Panama to 180something when Ireland joined. But that's not really important.

- I think Spain don't want to recognise Gibraltar as there'd be better arguments for separate Basque, Catalan and Gallegan teams so they may play somewhere else in that case.

- the support from Catalans follows.

I ask because Spain has 2 parcels of land in Morroco that Morroco wants back,

Good luck to them I say.

"Tonight's game is being played four hours away from Gibraltar at a stadium in the Algarve because our home ground, the Victoria Stadium, does not meet Uefa requirements. We left for Portugal by coach Saturday evening and will be travelling home straight after the game, arriving back in Gibraltar at 2am or 3am on Wednesday. It is a case of five hours' sleep and then back to work.

We have a few friends and family coming along to watch on Tuesday and I have heard that some local travel agencies have arranged coaches to take some supporters over. I would be delighted if 500 people came."

Why couldn't they call it "Team UK" surely that has the right ring to it, and is also more correct?

GB has more resonance than UK, as UK always begs the question "of what?".

soggy biscuit You just know that we would scrape past Isle of Man 1-0 with a late penalty

I was in a boozer on the Isle of Man for one tournament, forget which, watching England go out on penalties. I was quite surprised at how angry the locals got, smashing glasses and trashing their own local etc and did feel like asking why there were so bothered when they're not even from Eng-ger-land :|

'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'

Anyway UK is a marketing man's dream. You could do a t-shirt that says "UK OK" in the style of Robert Indiana's iconic Pop Art 'LOVE' sculpture

Of course, but you were proposing Team UK not Team UKoGB&NI. And there's no need for the NI anyway as the good bits want to be GB in any event.

Do people think "of what?" when United States is used?

I don't know what people think. Although in our case no doubt the Benelux Royals mourn the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. However, unlike us, the poor citizens of those United States aren't in the fortunate position of having a glorious alternative to use so I can't see that the question really arises.

Good week for Gibraltarians, having held Slovakia to a draw on their international debut, they have also fended off a Spanish survey vessle.

I think most people will know that 'United States' is short for 'United States of America'.

As well as Ceuta and Melilla, both of which are inhabited and the peninsula pictured above - Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera - there are at least half a dozen uninhabited islands off the Moroccan coast that 'belong' to Spain.

Not to The Olympics, who regard "Ireland" (rather than the Republic of...) as a single country, and say GB doesn't include Ireland
