Spot on.Ian Royal wrote:Never a truer word spoken, and the issue at throw ins is often also the lack of any movement from the player's on the pitch. But there were a number of occasions he had easy quick options he didn't take. I wonder if it's a perpetuating cycle... no one moves early because they know the full back will have to take it and won't be looking to release quick ball, then once the full back's decided he's ready, everyone's tightly marked and there's still little movement so it still doesn't come in. The full back never looks to release quick ball, because he knows no bugger is going to be looking for it.CountryRoyal wrote:He's not on his own there tbf Ian.Ian Royal wrote: Something he's guilty of at throw ins too. Opposition defences and midfields must love him... oooh, Gunter's on the ball or taking the throw in, plenty of time to find our shape and set ourselves.
The nearest player's should be looking for an instant opportunity, if there isn't one wait 'til everyone's set. Then at least two players have to move at once to receive, not one at a time. Make the oppo wonder where it's going to go and how soon, they'll make mistakes and leave space.
I don't do Vocational Qualifications except as part of rich whimsy.AthleticoSpizz wrote:Thought you already had them qualifications mate
Thought he was bang average yesterday. What struck me is that the tempo of his play, passing/throw-ins, picked up once we scored.RG7Fan wrote:In my view the problem with Gunter is that when he's bad he is so shit its unbelievable. He has some really good games, but he just seems really random. Lets not forget Brian signed Kelly while was there (here).KC Royal wrote:The problem with Gunter isn't that I think he's shit, he rarely has a bad game for me when I see him, it's that I expect more for someone of his experience. Over the last couple of years I've generally been more impressed with his Wales performances, and he's played centre-back at times in those games.
I think we'd miss him if he left though unless we signed a replacement.
I think the club should sign him up again - whats the alternative? Get £500k but have to spend £1m on a new player? That equates to £10k/week over a year. Maybe just stump up the wages and get him signed up?!?!?!
Plus he's 31, it's hardly the future is it?Norfolk Royal wrote:Sun says this morning we're after Norwich right back Steven Whittaker.
Oh dear no thanks.
There's a reason he's currently third in the pecking order at Norwich for that position, behind Andre Wisdom and Ivan Pinto.
It's because he's low table championship standard, became boo boy for Norwich fans.
Can't remember the block but think Ian's generally spot on tbf. Honestly shocked at all the praise he's getting, and i'm certainly not anti-Gunter!AthleticoSpizz wrote:Really Ian??
Seriously, were you actually there today?
If you seriously can't remember the block then I think that puts all other comment from you in the 'ignore' box. It was such a significant moment in the game that anyone who missed it clearly wasn't concentrating.KC Royal wrote:Can't remember the block but think Ian's generally spot on tbf. 2nd half I remember think before we scored he gave the ball away carelessly which led to a Sheffield Weds break with him out of position. I'll admit he played fairly well in the latter part of the game, but I actually thought he was pretty poor up until then.
Your village has sent out a message asking for their idiot to return. Do them a favour.72 bus wrote:Pretty much sums up Gunters style of play

So he runs to the halfway line and then keeps possession by passing to a team mate? Fine.72 bus wrote:Pretty much sums up Gunters style of play

Nothing wrong with keeping possession but this is his default option too much of the time. Given his pace wouldn't you just like to see him take the opposite full back on now and again just as Obita does down the other flank ?Hendo wrote:So he runs to the halfway line and then keeps possession by passing to a team mate? Cooper ran into space yesterday, passed it forward and they scored.
