Speculation - Ian Maatsen

19 year old Chelsea left back available on loan. Could do a job until we find a permanent replacement for Richards or Imari Samuels/Ethan Bristow are ready to be first team regulars.
Was on loan at Charlton last season and Nigel Adkins thinks it's likely he'll be off to a championship side this season. Think he'd be a risk but quite possibly an option the club are looking at with finances being tight. Also a fairly local move for the youngster.

Decent record for Charlton, not many crosses, bit too much unsuccessful touches.
Prefer a bit more experience given we have young and promising from the academy, but wouldn't say no for cheap wages

Can’t say the prospect of having player called Ian in the team appeals greatly.

Do you think we could drag him out of retirement we pretty much did that once before.

Hasn't he gone over to the darkside (become an agent) now? I mean, he could do a job for us on the pitch, but I'd be afraid he's be too busy persuading our assets to sign up with him and agitate for a move.

Maybe a double agent? Get all the players he represents to come to us?

Chelsea use their loanees to make money - which means we would have to cover his wage and pay a fee. Neither of which we are in a great position to do.

I think they actually have a pool of players who they’d loan out for financial game and are not part of their actual playing set up and never will be.
But they also loan out up and coming youngsters for the usual progression purposed. So loaning out Hector, Baker, Miazga etc will have been part of their commercial operation it would probably be different for players they see as on the pathway to the first team.
