Caretaker Reading FC manager Eamonn Dolan is expected to take the side to Manchester United this weekend following Monday's dismissal of Brian McDermott. An appointment of a new permanent manager appears to be some time away which will give Academy Manager Dolan a chance to see what he can do with the squad on a trip to Old Trafford. Dolan certainly has nothing to lose with a comprehensive defeat the most likely, and perhaps only possible, outcome.
Ex-Chelsea manager Roberto Di Mateo and former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins are the fans' top choices for new manager. However, Adkins may not be available for employment as he looks set to take his departure from Southampton to a tribunal. Paolo Di Canio remains an unpopular choice with Reading fans but that's still not stopping him remaining clear favourite with the bookmakers to get the job. Di Mateo and Adkins are also popular bets, while Reading Legend Phil Parkinson is now up to fourth favourite. The money seems to be going on Paolo Di Canio after he was seen in the stands watching last weekend's defeat. Surely the reality is that the next manager will not be Di Canio. If he is named manager it would be a huge step in the wrong direction from Brian McDermott.
