Reading have completed the signings of Haydon Roberts and Ryan Nyambe. Haydon Roberts, a rare permanent signing, has signed a contract to stay with the club until the summer of 2028. Roberts, a left sided defender follows on after the arrival of Ryan Nyambe as Reading strengthen their defence during the January transfer window. Roberts came through the youth system at Brighton but was limited to games in cup competitions before loan moves to Rochdale and Derby before signing for Bristol City in June 2023. At Bristol City most of his league appearances have been off the bench in the Championship and his last three games have been appearances for just a handful of minutes at the end of fixtures.

Nyambe, a 28 year old defender who usually plays right back, arrives from Derby County on loan until the end of the season. Nyambe started the season as first choice for Derby but found himself out of the side after the Rams made a slow start to the season including a 3-5 home defeat to Coventry in which Nyambe was booked. His last game for Derby was in November - another defeat - and he comes to Reading expecting to get more game time to get his season on track. He has previously played at Blackburn and Wigan.

The two new arrival follow on from the loan signing of Will Keane last week as the Royals make it three incoming signings. Keane, a forward, at 33 years old has plenty of experience and arrives from Preston until the end of the season. He immediately made his debut, coming off the bench during Reading's 1-3 away defeat against Leyton Orient on Saturday. The appearance was just his third of the season after two earlier games for Preston - but he still managed one Championship goal for his parent club last month. Keane has also played for Hull who paid a million pounds to sign him from Manchester United in August 2016 after he spent time at a series of clubs on loan. Most of his football has been played at Wigan where he made well over 100 appearances, scoring 50 goals before joining Preston.
