Brian McDermott has claimed there's been no "bust up" with midfielder Danny Guthrie after he was dropped from Saturday's squad. The Royals drew 3-3 at home with Fulham and Guthrie did not attend the game after failing to make it into McDermott's plans. It's been reported that the player had been told to "stay away from training". It does all hint of a falling out - and not for the first time this season, after Guthrie was publically disciplined for his use of Twitter after being dropped.
However the club have been quick to deny any problems between club and player, and told the press that Guthrie turned up for Sunday's training session as normal. McDermott has said that Guthrie remains in contention to win his place back in the squad as Reading face Arsenal on Tuesday night. So, hopefully, it appears any disagreement has been been short-lived. We'll have to wait to see if he makes a reappearance as Reading look to progress in the League Cup against Arsenal's youngsters.
Guthrie has made five league starts for the Royals, and scored one since his move from Newcastle United on a free transfer in the summer. He also featured in Reading's League Cup victory against Peterborough United and will clearly be hoping to make a quick return to action.
