its his lack of pace, combined with lack of experience

farm him out to saints and he can make the odd mistake in their shirt instead of ours, and come back a better player

Focher Pearce did well when he played this season but he does not have the pace to make it at a high level. I would put Bikey, Ivar, Doobs, and Cisse ahead of him.

So on the basis that Pearce lacks a bit of pace you'd put other players who also lack pace ahead of him ?

Plenty of centre backs lack pace, but make up for it by reading the game. It's not a killer problem in that position.

Bikey, Doobs, and Cisse all have genuine pace. Ivar is not quick but makes up for it in position, as Pearce will learn to do. Coppell likes pace and power, which is why he has always favoured Doobs, Bikey, Cisse, Sonko etc

I agree with every comment on this thread (except Gus'). He's decent, but still learning, needs experience, etc, etc.
Good loan move, I'm looking forward to when he returns. 8)

Gus the teenage cow
Royalwaster Great move for him joining the biggest club in the South - I doubt he'll want to come back! :D

didn't realise torquay had put in a last-minute bid

They won't be taking any Reading players anytime soon, after the last one!

Saying that, 7 wins in thelast 9, they probably won't be taking anyone else full stop for a little while.

I am not sure what the long term future holds for Pearce and I have to accept that the management team see more of him than I do but I am disappointed.
I don't know any centre back who hasn't made a couple of mistakes this season.

Why are you disappointed ?
It's a positive move - he's not been shunted off to a Conference side, he's going to get a run of Championship games
He's a young lad, shown he has the ability to do it at this level and is continuing his education.
He's got a way to go before he's the finished article and centre backs mature later than forwards...

Doobs does not have genuine pace. He is no Hyypia, but he is by no means quick. He's below average.

i personally think Doobs and Bikey are the quickest of the lot. Doobs is deceiving because of his long stride i would put a lot of money on him winning a mock up Barclays sprint challenge between him, Bikey, Cisse, Ingimarsson, and Pearce. 8)

For those who aren't aware, Pearce scored for Southampton today, to start their comeback away at Preston. Congratulations to the lad!

Aaron Brown scored for Yeovil yesterday too, good on the lad after all his injuries.
