The fact it didn't go in was nothing to do with McCarthy. Similarly if Federici had someone stood behind him on the line against Stoke it wouldn't have gone in either.
It was an appalling error. Whether or not Sigurdsson completes the tap in is neither here nor there wrt the error.
McCarthy had a bad game.
It was an appalling error. But he closed down Defoe quickly so he didn't have a clear shot on goal and forced him to pass it, giving the defence time to get back and cover. So McCarthy did have something to do with it not going in. And it didn't.
.
Only I don't think he did close Defoe down quickly. It was Defoe closing on McCarthy that brought them close together so quickly and was the reason Defoe was able to latch onto to ball when McCarthy took the poor touch. Defoe then opted for what he felt was a better option of laying the ball off - and it would have been the better option but for Pearce's heroics on the line.
McCarthy screwed up big time as you say and, but for Pearce's intervention, there would have been far less people singing his praises on here. I hope McCarthy comes good and quickly. However, still think Feds has proven himself far more, is currently the better keeper (despite his errors this season) and will prove that to be case by the end of this season.
