Totton just keep on winning, getting 3 points at Bridgwater last night, and now top the table by 2 points, though we have 2 games in hand.

We play at Totton on Saturday - having played 7 more games than us in the last 4-5 weeks they must surely be fcuking knackered by now, either that or kryptonite is the only thing that is going to stop them.

Having crammed in stacks of games over the last month Totton must be incredibly pissed off that the season has now been extended by 2 days to squeeze in the final games.

To be fair VTFC had a huge fixture pile up and needed to play 14 games in 24 days, not a healthy workload - the fixture at Stag Meadow being one of those. So what has happened now is that our game has been rearranged to the (new) last day of the season, being 26th April. VTFC are on the edge of the play offs - what if a nice comfortable draw suits both teams, us to win the League, and VTFC to secure 5th place...?

Understandably, Totton not happy!

A Berkshire football team sets record for defeats

A West Berkshire football team could be entering the record books tonight for all the wrong reasons.

If AFC Aldermaston loses its match against Downton at home, it will become the worst English football team in history, smashing the record for the greatest number of consecutive defeats.

The last team to come close to beating the record was Stockport in 1996.

Aldermaston have already equalled Stockport's record by losing 39 matches in a row.

Club chairman Damion Bone said that morale was still "good", despite the club languishing in 21st place in level five of Wessex Division one with a staggering goal difference of 121.

Bone said: "It's an important game for the club, we want to win. Morale is ok at the moment. Obviously we go out every game to win the game. Morale isn't as high as if we were near the top."

The unlucky club almost drew 2-2 in a recent game with Downton, before having a goal disallowed in the last minute.

However, the team have suffered a number of humiliating results, being beaten 0 - 6 by Tadley Calleva.

"We've had one game where the score was 11 - 0, I can't remember which team that was," said Bone. "We haven't sacked the manager but he stepped down just after Christmas."

Bone said that even if the team were to suffer yet another defeat at the hands of Downton, he would be partially consoled by entering the record books.

"We don't normally get much of a crowd, but tonight we might," he said.

Kick off will be at AFC Aldermaston's home ground at 20:00.

oxf*rd 'em

Sopme good news from the marbled halls and purveyord of fine coffee that can be found at Stag Meadow:

THE financial issues at Windsor & Eton have been resolved following a meeting between the chairman Peter Simpson and players on Saturday.

Manager Keith Scott confirmed that they are fully focused on the biggest game of the season so far, Saturday's trip to new leaders AFC Totton.

He said: "I will be managing the team and it's a game I am really looking forward to and the players are really looking forward to.

"It's a big game.

"There was a meeting between the chairman and the players that I was present at on Saturday and the issue has been resolved. There will be a statement from the club next week."

I will be at Totton on Saturday.Mobile phone updates will be considered upon request

So Stockport came close to beating Stockport's record?

And Stockport have never lost 39 games in a row.

TB....

:D What was that coffee you had last time?

The name screamed shit, the big white tin with blue writing screamed shit, and you screamed shit when you tasted it.

The thing is with the tea, if you're hungry, it's chewy enough to be a meal in itself.

What surprised me was that the previous coffees that I had had were quite drinkable. That last one though was really very nasty!

As the league club is Stockport County and 1996 was one of their most successful years ever I was assuming it was a non-league outfit called simply Stockport... can't find them though.

But you're right, it's really poorly written; probably produced by some half wit university grad in Golf Course Management or some such I expect. A product of the modern generation. Pah!

.... not sure about the in and outs; ups 'n downs of Stockport - looking back on the FC History Database site, I can't imagine which season could possibly have included such a run of consecutive defeats - unless it was start/end of 01/02 when they finished bottom of Division One with 32 defeats from 46 games.

Looking on Wiki the prime candidate actually seems to be Sunderland - who've managed 20 straight losses (twice :P ) 02/03 & 05/06. But of course this could have been written/compiled by someone who has no interest outside of the top tier of English Football.

However I can't believe there isn't someone, somewhere lower down the FL who can claim better (or worse?)

I was also at AFC Aldermaston last night and they were actually quite close to getting a 0-0 - deadlock broken agonizingly late on (86') after they'd fought a really courageous rearguard action. Downton did look a bit off-colour - they'd walloped 2nd place Hamble 4-1 earlier this week.

The BBC article has a fair number of 'questionable' points - not least that they can't actually be relegated from the Wessex One unless they choose to be.
After a season like the one they've suffered you could excuse them taking a year or two out to regroup.
They've had seasons similar to this in the past - they even got 'promoted' following an ill-thought re-org in the Wessex and spent the entire season rock-bottom and got thrashed nearly every week - so its not as if they're in uncharted waters.

Anyhow here's the Preview for tomorrow's local NL teams - there's quite a few 1st v 2nd match ups in here too....

CONFS
Bath City v Staines Town

Eventually ended 3-1 but 'boro lost two men to red cards and had to thank their keeper for an excellent penalty save late on. Truro also had ex-Royal Lee Hodges playing for them..
Rugby Town v Didcot Town
SOUTH1M
Beaconsfield SYCOB v Biggleswade Town
Burnham v Stourport Swifts
Bury Town v Slough Town
Rothwell Town v Marlow
SOUTH1SW
Abingdon United v Cirencester Town
AFC Totton v Windsor & Eton (2nd v 1st)

We stayed in Great Yarmouth last weekend (having first taken in the Ipswich game), and watched a match at Great Yarmouth Town's Wellesley Road ground on Sunday. Wellesley Road has the oldset stand in continuous use in world football. A splendid one to tick off.

Whooops - sorry - got 'em round the wrong way - not sure how - probably copied the comment phrase from another line.

Oh and while I'm back on, another couple of points from the Aldermaston report

"We don't normally get much of a crowd, but tonight we might [1] ," he said.

Kick off will be at AFC Aldermaston's home ground at 20:00 [2].

[1] crowd was about 20 ish - not much more or less than they'd normally get - possibly cos the 'Official' League Fixture/Results site (run by the FA) hadn't caught up with all the re-arranged games for this week.
In fact the Wessex League has had an army of Anoraks up in arms (or Thermos Flasks  ) following a directive they'd issued earlier this week: suggesting that to help clear the backlog of postponements and still meet the April deadline for seasons' end, that matches with no impact on league positions can be voluntarily and mutually agreed upon as 0-0's and needn't be played.
I think they may have since backtracked and announced they only really intended this to apply to Reserve/Combination leagues in their structure. :?

[2] Wessex League games always KO midweek at 19:45 - no idea where this time had been cooked up ?

... don't see why it wouldn't be on - 15:00h KO - admission costs are fairly voluntary - they asked me for £1 for a fairly thin programme - I was happy to hand over a couple of quid.
I expect before the game they have a little table with someone collecting any money offered and handing out progs. Its likely to be placed near the gap in the fence which is the main way into the pitch.
We actually turned up a bit late - I'd been before so knew the home officials would be in the upstairs bit of the pavilion-like building - where you can get hot/cold drinks and sweets - possibly Rolls if they've bothered doing any - the loos are up there too.
If you've not visited before the complex is pretty big and there are lot of buildings scattered about - so its quite confusing.
Head for the big car park at the AWE West Gate over by the A340 - then walk toward the floodlights - over to the right/eastern end - don't be put off by all the fences the gates are usually open - you might also see a few people lolling around outside the big Social Club - white building - well worth trying to blag your way in there at Half-Time. It does have a complex sort of Card Reader door access thing but in the past I've just waved and been let in. Bars are very comfy.
The AFC Aldermaston pitch is past the right hand side of the Social Club - turning right where it opens out.

Enjoy! 8)

Unfortunately I couldn't go as my son was in a swimming comp in sunny Aldershot but Terminal Boardom did. His brief after match report indicated a good close hard fought game between 2 good teams, could have gone either way, Totton might feel they had the edge.

Apparently W&E had someone carried off with suspected broken leg - not sure who.

I look forward to his more detailed report later.

Four Of Clubs Enjoy! 8)
Thanks for your invaluable help FOC...as expected, you were "spot-on", and yes, I very much did.

And what a collectors piece it was......

Aldermaston having gotten beaten for 31 consequetive games, got their first point of their season today...........and how close it was from being all three.

How Aldermaston have been Sydenham Wessex's whipping boys this season I will never know.......they actually looked pretty good.

The first half was pretty much a 50/50 affair, neither team trying anything much except for long balls and shots from distance.... (the best being Warminsters long range effort just before halftime...that was brilliantly saved by GK Ben Smith who had to back peddle so much that he collided with his own uprights so hard, that I thought neither would survive.).

HT 0-0

The second half was very much Aldermastons

A 1-0 lead was taken by the tricky #9 Abdul Ally after 65 minutes

The Linesman hampered the chance for the potential of a 2-0 lead with a very incorrect offside decision when Abdul was through once again shortly afterwards

The Warminster keeper, had to catch well from a #4 Sam Ampleford looping header after about 75 minutes.

As the game progressed (and an Aldermaston management person got sent to the pavillion), a succession of corners and some frenetic defending led to an Warminster equaliser in the last five minutes.

All in all, two teams playing a good hard game (like their lives depended on it).......very evenly matched on the day

A deserved point for Aldermaston whose celebrations were somewhat cut short by the equaliser..........but yet had the bragging rights in front of the media that were there taking photographs

AFC Aldermaston 1 Warminster 1

(HT 0-0)

Crowd

Peaked at 25

Thanx again FOC.............what a great game, really enjoyed that one 8)
