Franchise FCPEARCEYbobby m's syrup Could I please point out that there was no full stop after Notts in the above post. (It is, after all, an abbreviation.)
Although standards are slipping I consider this post to be even more pedantic than the one in question.
Yours punctilliously etc.
Very good. As I posted my pedantic email it did cross my mind that I should put a full-stop after Notts. but I thought I might get away with it...so I didn't. Live by the pedantic sword die by it I suppose.
Actually, the Notts County website (notice no fullstop) has no fullstop. Therefore, your pedantry was extremely well placed.

Though not the spelling, to be punctilious about it.

West Stand FlashIan Royal Flash has a history of talking bollocks, so I'll go with Gazzer who I think said it was someone totally different.
Just wait & see, then you can say sorry.

You'll be waiting a long time. 'til Hell freezes over, approximately, and given there is no such place as hell, that could be quite a while coming.

What would Notts. County know? British usage favours omitting the full stop only in abbreviations which include the first and last letters of a single word, such as Mr, Mrs, Ms, etc. All other abbreviations should have a full stop. No wonder they are languishing somewhere above Oxford Utd in the great scheme of things. Correct usage could dig them out of the hole they are in. Never mind investing millions in a Swedish has been.

However, convention also accepts that institutions can punctuate their own names in any way they see fit.
