bobby m's syrup Could I please point out that there was no full stop after Notts in the above post. (It is, after all, an abbreviation.)

Although standards are slipping I consider this post to be even more pedantic than the one in question.

Yours punctilliously etc.

 Very good. As I posted my pedantic email it did cross my mind that I should put a full-stop after Notts. but I thought I might get away with it...so I didn't. Live by the pedantic sword die by it I suppose.

Actually, the Notts County website (notice no fullstop) has no fullstop. Therefore, your pedantry was extremely well placed.

Though not the spelling, to be punctilious about it.

Take a look at the site - they spell the club name with no fullstop throughout - as do the Football League on their site.

You'll be waiting a long time. 'til Hell freezes over, approximately, and given there is no such place as hell, that could be quite a while coming.

What would Notts. County know? British usage favours omitting the full stop only in abbreviations which include the first and last letters of a single word, such as Mr, Mrs, Ms, etc. All other abbreviations should have a full stop. No wonder they are languishing somewhere above Oxford Utd in the great scheme of things. Correct usage could dig them out of the hole they are in. Never mind investing millions in a Swedish has been.

Now, about adding a 's' to the plural of pannino, which is, as we all know pannini........... :D

when are you going to acknowledge you were talking bollocks about how much we'd spend this season and how much we'd spend on a single player?
