Football phone in this week?

by Dangerous » 14 Sep 2006 13:42

Are you having one this week Ollie? If so who have you got coming in? Will you be wanting questions?

I'll give it an hour before RL is on here saying that she has a question but it won't be asked anyway, before signing off with

Patience! Right, this week's phone-in is with academy boss Eamonn Dolan, so if you want to know who the next Royals star will be, how the academy squad have had to adapt to being part of a Premiership club, or anything else, then you can:

- phone 0845 900 1041

- text 07786 202 303

- leave your question here in this thread!

Footie phone-in, Tim Dellor with Eamonn Dolan, 6pm-7pm, Friday 15 September.

What's the differences between working at a Premier League side and a Conference side?

WestCoast Life get John Madejski in
They'll have to put a bid in and hope 107FM don't beat it

Question for Eamonn: Now that we're in the media spotlight as a Premier League club and Southampton are in the lower leagues, Is the accademy finding it easier to attract potential stars that might otherwise have joined the Saints? (Theo Walcot for example?)

Question for Eamonn: Premier League status brings cash into the club, Has there been any new or increased investment in the accademy?

Question for Eamonn: How seriously do you take the accademy fixtures? We know the official line is that it's all about player development and not so much results, but do you go though the same range of emotions every first team manager (other than Steve Coppell) does during a competitive game?

Question for Eamonn:

Kind of split into 3 sections but bear with it!

Who, realistically from the Academy should or will be pushing for a spot in the first team, if not this season, then next? and will any of these players be pushing for a spot in the forthcoming cup fixture with Darlington?

Also, Simon Cox has recently gone out on loan to Brentford, do the club see this as greatly beneficial to the Youngsters coming through, and do they have some kind of selection process for clubs wishing to loan players?

Have we had many enquiries from other league teams regarding any of our youngsters with regard to loan or permanent transfers?

Which player would you say is most likely to make the graduation to first team level that you are currently coaching?

What targets have you set yourself for getting youth team players into the first team?

Not one of the players who were in the 16 for Man City came through the youth ranks (although Shane Long did play a bit of youth team football) What do you think the mains reasons have been for that and what have you changed to bring more success in developing home grown talent?

is was reported that Nigel Gibbs will have a particular role in developing individuals on the fringes of the first team into established first team players - what interaction do you have with Nigel?

The main successes of our youth team policy (namely Darius Henderson, Jamie Ashdown and nathan Tyson) were all sold by Steve Coppell. Whats your view on Readings transfer policy when it comes to youth?

It must have been hard to leave Exeter, would you suggest that Spacey also comes to Reading?

Question for Eamonn: If you had a same-sex civil marriage with retired baseball star Nolan Ryan, would you take his surname, because if he took yours he'd be Nolan Dolan?

But seriously

Who's the worst Academy player?

How easy/difficult is it to gauge talent in, say, an 11 year old?

How has the Academy progressed since you took over and how can it/will it be improved?

Red or Blue Bounties?

Have things changed since the club hit the Premiership, have we suddenly got loads of kids and parents hammering on your door wanting to get in?

We hear a lot about James Henry - and to a slightly lesser degree - Pierre Joseph-Dubois - how good are they really?

Do we have the next Theo Walcott or Michael Owen or Wayne Rooney on the radar yet?

Locally there are hundreds of Saturday morning games played by kids of all ages. Obviously you'll follow up leads from parents and club coaches but how proactive is the Academy in just turning up at these games?

Is Tom Baker still the best Doctor Who?

What more can the club do to reach the local Berkshire communities, are secondary schools visited by players and coaches as well as infant/junior schools, are some of the local junior football clubs involved?

Are we scouting opposition accademies with a view to poaching their best players and if so, would any transfer fee's come out of the main transfer budget or is there a seperate accademy budget?

How much of an active role do Steve Coppell, Kevin Dillon and Wally Downes take in monitoring the progress of the accademy?
