let's just keep it simple eh - let's all just vote for Murty. I don't really think they're likely to want to give it to a non-player - remember it's not about who Reading fans think deserve it, it's about who they'll be happy to give it to.

My vote for Murty is in.

I would like to nominate Graeme Murty of Reading Football Club for BBC South Sports Personality of the Year.

He had an outstanding season as captain of The Royals in what was a truly remarkable year for the club. It is doubtful that the records achieved by Reading in reaching the Premiership for the first time in the club’s history will ever be broken, and Murty was instrumental in driving his team towards those achievements.

Voted. How can the captain of the team with the most ever points in second flight football and who scored the penalty to give us that record not be sports personality of the year?!!

I really don't know why the award's name is the 'sport's personality of the year', when it's based more on sporting achievement than personality. 'Sport's Person' would be better. Otherwise, in my opinion, Glenn Little would win hands down.

That sums up the BBC. Historically, the main BBC programme (televised on the second Sunday in December) was called "BBC Sports Review of the year" and the winner was the "BBC Sports Person of the year". At some stage over the past few years, the BBC decided (in their infinite wisdom  ) to change it to "BBC Sports Personality of the year" with the winner given the same title despite the fact that most of the winners are totally devoid of any personality.

What? You mean like Michael Owen? What about his electric charisma, his razor sharp witt, his passion for his country, his amazing golfing annecdotes. There truely wasn't a greater personality playing sport in 1998, or at least not one who scored against the Argies.

Binfield Royal
Rawlie19 In the main catagories, who is likely to win "Best Team"? And COULD record breaking Reading be in with a chance? None of our international teams in the main sports we take part in have done anything worthy, but what about the smaller less glam sports?

Yeah but Southampton were the best team in the league last year so they will win the team catagory and Nigel (football god) Quashie will win the individual prize

surely.......... :D :D :D

An obvious choice.... but does he qualify now he's moved to the midlands second dividion?

Perhaps there are other categories.....

...skill

...talent

...sportsmanship

OK, Maybe we could just adopt the lovely Nigel....

... he could be seconded to the Hahnemann wives to help with the money-raising?
