If you look at the clip of the inccident you can see sonko falls and about 2 seconds later mccarthy goes down.

There was contact, but not enough to make McCarthy go down. McCarthy dived and deserved a booking.

I was right behind it so from my point of view.... Sonko got done on the inside - terrible defending - McCarthy ran across Sonko who made a desperate lunge, just about making contact with his calf. McCarthy carried on, realised that Ivar(?) on the line was going to get to the ball first, and made a dive of Louganis proportions.

Benni, the cheating twat that he is, dived, and dived badly. Should have been a yellow card, no doubt.

As for this thread, I thought Poll was actually reasonably good, he missed a few things here and there but that's to be expected. Not sure he deserves being called a 'disgrace'??

edit: What Handbags Harris said basically, I just like some jibber jabber

Apart from the others who agree with me, yes I am on my own!

Interestingly the Sky team all agreed with me yesterday; or I suppose to be more accurate, I agreed with them.

I'll stick to the facts for a moment (a rare commodity on here). There was clear contact between Sonko and McCarthy. McCarthy fell (somewhat dramatically). You can have your interpretation of guilt or otherwise, I'll have mine. Veterans of HNA will know that I have a superiority complex, based solely on my superiority. Hence my view is correct.

And youve seen the reverse angle?
Yup

Blackadder comes to mind

That's the spirit, George. If nothing else works, then a

total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face

will see us through.

At last bcubed, you are coming along woth me and accepting the facts? It is painfully clear that there was some contact, whether it was enough to cause the dramatic collapse that resulted is arguable - but as you say - the facts are there and if you wish to continue your Blackadder-like pigheadedness that is fine by me.

Remember - my superiority is totally based on being superior. 8)

There wasn't enough contact for it to be worthy of a penalty though.

Sonko tripped, McCarthy (who may or may not have had the slightest of touches from Sonko) blatantly dived.

Should have been a yellow, no question.

However, I was actually fairly impressed with Graham "3 yellows" Poll and thought he did ok.

but the contact was about 5 seconds before the dive and clearly not enough to even nudge mcarthy, and when he did dive he was a yard away from sonko.

as a defender, if i touch the bloke at half time, and at the end of the match he dives, surely it doesnt count

Exactly.

Whether or not there was contact is irrelevant. His reaction was fake. He dived.

I think we are all agreed there then. Contact yes, penalty no. We can argue to the death over the fall or the dive (and I challenge you to try it - you do often get a delayed reaction to an slight ankle tap).

I think we are all agreed that the fall was exagerated.

Spaecruiser and bcubed seem out on a limb claiming no contact at all - but that fits the usual quality of their observational powers. My daughter is still on hand to offer appointments at D&A if required.

I sit up in Y26, and had an excellent view of said incident.

First things first, it was not a penalty, it was a dive.

However, I believe the reason why he went down is not because Sonks ankle tapped him, it was because he briefly had hold of McCarthys shirt (the left side so away from the refs & majority of the crowds view) after he'd turned him. Probably learning from previous mistakes Sonks let go, just before McCarthy fell like a lemming to the bemusement of everyone around him..

Most definately a dive..

Sonko "brushed" his shorts with his hand. A riciculous amount of time later McCarthy dived. The rules say diving should lead to a caution. It didn't so Poll made a(nother) mistake. As a fan you don't need to see it at the time, that's the ref's job, but television replays have made clear that it was a delayed dive from the slightest of touches.
