Only one Trevor Morley To be honest I cant remember the last player we sold for cash - was it hughes?

I'm pretty sure that's right, but I can't remember the last player before that who we got money for when he left.

We got some money when Scott Murray went back to Bristol City but as it was equal to the amount we still owed them, probably doesn't really count.

Darius Henderson? Martin Butler?

Butts went for £150K.

Darius was "nominal". (probably a bag of carrots for the journey).

Before that it was Shaun Alloway to LolLeeds for £300K.

However, we did get some money from the sell on clause for him. How much was it, can anybody remember? :?

Talking of ridiculous transfer fees, can anyone remember a worse set of signing than these in 1998/99 (Casper excepted).

Peter Van der Kwaak Dordrecht Free 01-08-1998
Elroy Kromheer PEC Zwolle £ 150000 01-08-1998
Grant Smith Wycombe Free 01-08-1998
Chris Casper Man Utd £ 300000 02-11-1998
Andy Gurney Torquay £ 100000 13-01-1999
Tony Barras York £ 20000 25-03-1999
Keith Scott Wycombe £ 250000 25-03-1999
Sean Evers Luton £ 500000 25-03-1999
Andy McLaren Dundee Utd £ 100000 25-03-1999
Total £1.42M

I like the way people are saying 'we are not a selling club'. How exactly does anyone know this? Name a player of ours in the last five years that anyone has actually made a substantial bid for (£2m+).

Until we are actually tested with a big bid it's impossible to know how the club would react.

For what it's worth I reckon Doyle £9-10M and Shorey £5m.

The only way Mr Mad would sell any of our "best players" is if he got an offer for the whole club so therefore

£200 million...................wow

Only one Trevor Morley Surely at least 7 million for Shorey?

To be honest I cant remember the last player we sold for cash - was it hughes?

You could be right but our record selling price is still Shaka Hislop @ £1.75m. Or roughly that figure, I am happy to be corrected.

£100,000 for Doyle - that would be a nice little profit of £22,000

Amazing that its still the highest transfer fee we have received! We've never really cashed in on our players - due to a mixture of a) not needing to sell b) getting players on long contracts c) players finishing their careers here d) letting people go on frees.......

600K for Hughes looks like excellent business in hindsight - at the time I remember people bemoaning 'lack of ambition'..........

Whatever happened to Shaun Alloway? When he signed for Leeds he was a future England keeper. I know he broke his wrist soon after he signed - where is he now?

Turns8 Shorey will not end up at one of the top 4 this summer....

Teams like that look abroad for proven international players...until Shorey breaks into the full England squad..he will be off the radar...that's how football is...he might be consistent and can play to a high standard...but he's not big enough just yet...

Why spend £5m on him when you could waste £8m on some carlos kickaball who has played at least 20times for his national team...

Can't see him going...

You mean players like Evra, Clichy, Eboue, Arbeloa, Aurelio all who have been signed by the three of the top four without any real international pedigree let alone experience of the English game.

And don't forget the interest shown in Gareth Bale this year.

I'm not for a minute suggesting that Shorey is on the top fours shopping list, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of them, especially Wenger, decided they thought he was worth a punt. The only thing that would put them off is the over inflated prices for players playing over here.
