Wycombe Royal Christian Wilhelmsson has left Bolton.

With losing Anelka too - They are weakening as much as we are. I have a feeling a few new faces will be seen at the Reebok today tho. Reading on the other hand............

How are we weakening when nobody has left (bar loans of young players & Halls) and two players have arrived?

Wycombe Royal
RoyalBlue I see Bolton have managed to sign a PL Centre Back.

28 matches in the PL over 4 seasons. He's played more games in the Championship. To me £5m for that experience is way over the top for that level of experience. (I'm not saying he's crap, just that he doesn't have the experience to warrant that fee).

But that's the market price in the January window and that is the price that we have to face up and fail because the management team failed to strengthen the squad last summer when prices weren't quite as high.

And whatever excuses are put up on their behalf, the simple fact is that the management team did fail to strengthen the squad last summer.

You could argue that he's less established as a Premiership defender than Ingimarsson and Sonko. Therefore its not just the price as much as the fact that the club don't believe he's any better than we already have?

The whole year inn We'll see on Saturday. :?

50 goals shipped so far, on course for 75-80 by the seasons end and nobody added to the defence. :? Obviously we have no problems there :?

Cisse not been good there then recently? Not got an able understudy to Murts then? Not got an regular for a top African national side as a back-up?

1349: ACTUAL NEWS CHARLTON in/SUNDERLAND out
Charlton have signed defender Greg Halford from Sunderland on loan until the end of the season. Remember kids, midfielder Andy Reid is set to move the other way. Maybe they will pass each other on the motorway.

Lol - Nothing to do with Reading FC, but funny all the same.

none of the other sides in the relegation-threatened 8 have strengthened considerably with the exception of Fulham, we'll be fine

Only my opinion, but I would say Wigan, Birmingham, Sunderland and Fulham have improved over the transfer window moreso than Reading. Bolton have made some excellent signings too, but this is balanced by the departure of Anelka.

Yeah, could be a very good signing.

Interestingly though thats been the only activity inwards from them yet they've probably got the best set of results of any of the bottom 8 during January without actually adding anyone.

EDIT. I've said before but i think they could be a very good model for us to look at. Local chairman, nowhere near the big support of the bigger premiership teams yet in recent times have focused a lot on producing local talent whilst attempting to supplement them with shrewd transfer dealings. I genuinely hope they're successful, although not at our expense obviously.

Agreed. Difficult to judge as few outside Middlesbrough know much about their youth players, but are these chaps just better than the likes of Henry and Pearce, or are they just given a bigger, real chanc eto prove themselves. Interesting the difference in approach – for whatever reason, management at Reading make the cost/progress calculation, and determine that small ‘risky’ buys like Halford and Fae, make better football and business sense than throwing the youth players in. Not criticising either approach (in this thread!).

2 new signings in the shape of Marek Matejovsky & Jimmy Kebe isn't bad for this January Transfer window.

Well done RFC. Good business was done. Our squad should now be stronger than it was last season.

Little and Sidwell out, Matejovsky and Kebe in.

Sorry, I think the jury is well and truly out on that one.
