Top Flight Well done RFC. Good business was done. Our squad should now be stronger than it was last season.

Little and Sidwell out, Matejovsky and Kebe in.

Sorry, I think the jury is well and truly out on that one.

Messy argumentation. Sidwell and Little have been out since the summer.

Good point. Don't think he meant it though that may remain a mystery!

I did mean it.

Little is in our squad. When he is available he plays.

So the comparison is Sidwell Vs Matejovsky. Of course the jury is still out and Marek is unproven.

But I would hazard a guess that Matejovsky will prove to be better than Sidwell. Therefore, we have improved. Maybe the results from this point onwards will start to have more resemblance to last seasons results.

Generally though over the course of this season compared to last season we have definitely been weaker this year than we were last year. With Gunnarsson playing instead of Sidwell that has severely weakened us.

However, I place my hopes that Marek will be an improvement on last seasons side that included Sidwell.

And with Oster back, Kebe around, Marek soon to be a first team regular and Little just a couple of months away now, from this point onwards we should start to look like a good side again. Sonko & Bikey will be back soon as well.

Whether we are better or not will depend on Marek. I don't want to put too much pressure on the lad, but its his performances that will demonstrate whether we now have a better squad than we had last season.

Obviously we had to put up with a weaker squad during the first half of the season until January. But from now until the end, we may have a better squad than last years. Lets see how things pan out and whether its true or not.

Based on what little has been seen of him so far the comparison of Marek with Sidwell seems to me to be not a meaningful apples to apples case. Marek's strengths may be more in vision, playmaking and the ability to make a longer pass. Sidwell's were more about energy, getting back and forward quickly and disturbing the opposition.

Top Flight 2 new signings in the shape of Marek Matejovsky & Jimmy Kebe isn't bad for this January Transfer window.

Did Hammond and his cronies pay you to put that?

Scunthorpe's Martin Paterson could go for as much as £5m as Sunderland, Derby, Fulham and Reading are all interested. Watford and Burnley are keen too, but the only club to bid so far are Norwich.

Reid officially signs for Sunderland.

Strong rumours that Rozehnal is off on loan to Lazio - strange news as all Czech internationals are supposedly fantastic. Just not always in the PL, apparently.

And as other teams continue to strengthen their squads RFC prove they have a fine string quartet with all four playing a mean fiddle.

Rather unsurprisingly, Hodgson has been going Nordic-tastic this window.

I think it's been a combination of losing sidwell along with Little and Oster being injured and selling Seol. We lost half of the midfield with nobody able to plug a rather large gap. Had we lost just one of those two positions we'd have been a lot healthier, but losing both has given us midfield that arguably the worst in the division. Hopefully one of those holes is filled, and while Oster is definitely understudy material, he is capable of playing the position better than anyone else we've tried this season. Fingers crossed as well that Kebe can be a decent player. We don't need any more back-up players.

Updated with Cox to Swindon.

Steve Davis leaves Fulham for Rangers on loan. They're going to have to fit a revolving door tonight.

It's a fact of life that we justify, to the best of our abilities, the things we do and usually save our deepest regrets for the things we fail to do. I hope that SSC and the football club have weighed up the transfer pros and cons well enough to avoid the former and won't live to rue the latter. Personally my head says they are good professionals, but my heart fears that they have not strengthened the team sufficiently to avoid relegation. I hope therefore, to be proven wrong by an upsurge in performance by all concerned. If it does go tits-up I will be supporting the best team in the championship, what else can a fan do :?:

If we manage to keep Shorey, Lita & Hunt again I'll be happy with that. Much better than more useless signings who can't get in the team or has-beens like Litmanen (LOL!)

I'm amazed that so many Reading fans are happy to continue with a squad which has faltered so much over the last 6 months.

 Matejovsky has played 30 minutes in two matches. His market value doesn't say he's better than Sidwell.

 The Kebe signing is a joke. French second division - be still my heart.

It isn't clear why Reading can't do the business in the transfer market, but they need to figure it out. If Reading is fortunate enough to stay up, they will have to improve in the summer. Coppell's Championship team needs a refresh.
