Hoop Blah
Son of Len No conspiracy theory needed.

My cousin's husband used to play basketball in the NBA here in the States. One time (at least) in the twilight of his career he was listed as injured, although he clearly wasn't. In that case, the NBA team used the disabled list to store him (due to limits on teams' active rosters) in case he was needed.

I'm sure 2ww1wc's theory is spot on, although not conspiratorial, which gives the impression of underhandedness.

We don't have any daft rules to get round by making up injuries though so apart from protecting Murty's ego there would be nothing to be gained from making up a fake injury.

For what it's worth I think Murty is a big enough kind of guy to accept being dropped and wouldn't hide behind a fake injury, especially as his teammates would know it's a load of rubbish.

All the other players dropped took it on the chin and I don't see any reason why Murts would receive special treatment.

Unless he was injured...

You internet-qualified doctors make me cringe.

Murty hypochondriac? Do me a favour. Having seen most of the clatterings he's taken on a pitch over the years, it amazes me he even gets up to finish some of those games, let alone recover afterwards via the treatment table. None of us has ever been anywhere near being a professional footballer and therefore has no idea whatsoever of the strains that the body undergoes and I'm sure I don't need to mention that a lot of these injuries do actually occur away from the public arena in training and therefore none of us are party to how these injuries all occur or what they mean for each individual player.
Typical comments might include "he didn't look injured to me when he came off in the second half/at the end of the game". Really? How does that qualify anyone to diagnose what might be wrong with a player when it is subsequently announced that he is injured and missing the next game or games?
If - and it's a hugely big if - he was NOT injured, but simply dropped, hands up all those who think he would not have still travelled with the squad to a) support the team on the day and b) visit his family and friends in and around Boro'?

Couldn't agree more especially your point about travelling is all the more relevant when Sonks travelled when he was not going to be on the bench, I know he was but that was becasue of Fae's fever.

Still why let logic get in the way of a good spoof

The club are travelling to Spain on Sunday for a training session out there & Coppell has stated that Murty isn't travelling since there's no point as he can't train. So, I think that puts to bed the "he isn't injured" story.
Interestingly, Glen is going & the players' golf clubs aren't.
