Cycling to Mad Stad

by Stuffed Crust Pizza » 15 Aug 2008 11:34

Tomorrow I will be 'going green'! Don't worry, I'm not going be an Argyle fan for the day. I'm in fact going to cycle to the game.

I'd like to direct a few questions for more frequent travellers on two wheeled transport. Firstly, is there adequate space in the cycle park? Or do I need to arrive early to be able to lock the bike up? And secondly, are the Stewards on the gates fairly relaxed about taking helmets in? Or are these on the offensive weapons list!!?

They let plenty of helmets into Y25, so you should be fine

There are 51 cycle stands (so that's space for 102 bikes - as a digression, that compares with the 300 mentioned at design stage). However, there are so many other places where you can lock a bike up safely that there's no concern if the stands do fill up, which they usually do at this time of year if the weather's OK.

Stewards have sometimes questioned me when taking bicycle lights or a pump into the grounds but have always allowed them through. I've seen plenty of motorcycle helmets inside the ground, so a bicycle helmet is unlikely to be a problem, although I don't use one myself.

Ditto, I've had a couple of a stewards stop me taking lights/pump in, but on each occassion their supervisor has seen sense and over-ruled them. It should also be noted that the cycle park also doubles as a motorcycle park so there are considerably fewer places for push bikes that 102. It's a bit shit really for a stadium of that size.
