Jay doesn't believe we were after Lescott or Brown. The bids were too high for us to have made.

We were interested, but we would never have paid the money required to get the players.

SCIAG

SCIAG If we went up, I genuinely don't think any United youngsters would do us good.

Maybe Welbeck, but we can do better, and permanently.

Yeah right!! Reading, a club that struggled to attract players when in the Premier League, and you think we can do better and possibly get better than Welbeck?

ALOL.

Are you saying that Welbeck, a player you have only heard of since he scored for Man United, is the best striker we could possibly sign in the event of promotion? Jay, I knew you had a reputation for basing your opinions on very little, but ffs!

Saying only that we struggled to attract 'top' players when we were Premier League. Writing off a young and promising kid that could well go on a season long loan next season, when we will still struggle to get players of a certain quality, is daft.

We wont pay big wages, we wont pay big transfer fees, and who we can get is very limited.

I'm never sure of the point of comments like that when there is clear evidence that proves them to be wrong.

You may as well claim we'll never sign a Czech international or have 4 players in the Ireland team....

We had a £4m bid accepted for Scott Brown - however he never wanted to join us as we were a small club

Yes - even Hammond made reference to it at the time - Bet Sir Mad is thanking his lucky stars that Brown saw us as a small club - saved him almost enough for him to buy his Degan piece instead!

and just to confirm look at this link and you will see for yourself - http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10306~1026655,00.html

it was £4.4m not £4m - apart from that the rest as you will read was correct!

Degas, which was bought years before we made a bid for Brown.

Think you will find it was bought in 2004 - not sure what month and how this ties into Brown transfer...but yet again proving yourself to be a right COCK!

I didn't realise that RFC bought the Degas statue ?

Or that JM would have bought Scott Brown ?
Some confusion here I think....

Whatever way you look at it - all the money is signed off by Sir Mad and in 2004 he would have still been putting his own money in, so does it really matter - any funds would have been from Sir Mad

ooo touchy aren't we.

Just correcting your spelling of a world famous artist. Oh and pointing out that Madjeski bought the statue before the bid for Brown, so saving the money from that couldn't have helped him buy the statue. Which came from your post.

Not too difficult to follow where I was going. As for the specific value, I couldn't be arsed to look up the exact figure so rounded down to £4m for simplicity.
