royalexile, I totally agree mate. However, Dillon taking charge is one hell of a risk when we've come so far.

We've seen some pretty poor football for two seasons almost. Coppell unable to pinpoint the problem and why we revert to the long ball.

I would like to see fresh faces in charge, someone that the players don't know and who will shake things up a bit. At the very most I'd like to see Dillon remain as a coach, but no more than that.

Personally, I would love to see McDermot step up to assistant manager and thus educate the new manager on the youngsters that we have.

This could either be a very good thing or a very bad thing.
Supposing Coppell does leave, no matter what happens...
We get a new manager. A new back-room staff. A squad shake-up.
For better or worse? Would the new manager take us higher, or would we stumble along at Premiership level and drop out of sight?
At least with Coppell we know what we're getting.
If we get a new manager in the Premiership, it's a huge gamble asking that manager to quickly get to grips with the squad we have.
If we get a new manager in the Championship, it means it will probably take longer to be promoted to the Premier league as the new manager will (probably) want to change the squad to what he sees as Premiership material.
Basically, we have an interesting future.

If we get a new manager in the Premiership I would still expect us to get rid of some players and bring some new ones in.
And I'm presuming it's a typo to say "we'd be stumbling along at premiership level"? Cos I'd be happy being premiership level for quite some time!!

EXCLUSIVE: Coppell is quitting after 25 years
By Joe Bernstein Last updated at 10:23 PM on 25th April 2009
Comments (0) Add to My Stories Steve Coppell will end a 25- year managerial career by leaving Reading at the end of the season, regardless of whether they are promoted to the Premier League.
Coppell, who celebrated his 1,000th game as a manager last month, is sticking by a pledge to close friends that this will be his final campaign despite enjoying the run-in to the season.
Pledge to go: Steve Coppell
The former Manchester United and England star stayed at the Madejski Stadium after relegation last season because he felt he owed the club to try to haul them back into the top flight.
Coppell's side can win promotion if they win their last two games, starting tomorrow against Norwich City. If they do go up, Coppell will feel he has done his job and it is time to hand over the reins.
Owner John Madejski is believed to be aware of Coppell's intention, with former Reading boss Alan Pardew and Alan Curbishley on the shortlist to succeed him.
Coppell, 53, began the first of four managerial spells at Crystal Palace at the age of just 28 and famously took the club to the 1990 FA Cup final. He gave up his chance to succeed at a big club when he quit Manchester City after just 33 days in 1996.

But after spells with Brentford and Brighton, he went to Reading and became their most successful manager.

I've noticed threads get deleted or lumped onto other threads.

Maybe the club has taken control of Hobnob.

Whatever the reason, it makes it a bit pointless trying to debate anything on here.

Its ok to post it, but put it in the right section. This should be in unfounded rumours and gossip, as it is not an official story...

THreads get deleted or merged if they aren't in the right place, are wind up bullcrap or are duplications.

This is educated guesswork in an attempt to seem first with the news.

No, no it isn't.

Correct, there will be no attempt to get SC to stay at the end of this season if he decides to retire, his decision, if he makes it will be made with all the best intentions, rather than because of a relegation.

He will leave withthe best wishes of almost all the fans for what he did at RFC, I feel sure that if he retires then he will be back for Murts testimonial with the S Coppell All Stars team, ex RFC and others from his past.
