yeah, seem to remember we started well and took the lead but they were masters of the off-side and we barely created another attack without getting caught off side about 40 yards out.

Yep, I was there. I seem to reacall the kit was black and red (so it was probably yellow and green)!

I was at this one too, it was a week or so after we'd lifted the Division 2 Championship trophy in '94 and after a season of watching us beat allcomers home and away it was slightly surreal seeing us get tonked on our own patch!

Their centre-forward, Thomas Shuravy had starred in the 1990 World Cup for Czechoslovakia and was a class above. I couldn't believe I was watching such a top player from Serie A at Elm Park.

As I remember it poured with rain and we got drenched stood on the Tilehurst End Terrace. Genoa were in navy and red halved shirts and after going behind early on ran rings around us and eventually won 4-1.

I recall Mark McGhee coming on as a late sub looking very unfit and spending most of the time on his arse! Don't think he bothered putting his boots on again after that.

I went to that game with my mate Charlie who's now dead, thinking it would be the best gamein the world. It seemed like such a glamour tie at the time, but was just utter gash on a wet and miserable day. I can't be bothered to check but what league are genoa in now?
