Coxy is 22 btw, so when we were in the Prem he was 20. I've heard that Spurs might be after him. I hope they are and I hope he goes on to have a fantastic career.

Southbank Old Boy He was what 18 when he was last with us in the Prem?

Change that to not being able to get into a Premiership team and you might have a point, but it all depends if you think he should or shouldnt have got a game in a side that couldnt score a goal before he left on how you view his level. It could well be he has had the season of his life or that whatever move he makes doesnt quite work out but that doesnt mean he hasnt the ability to play at a higher level than he is now

Fair points !

Did he get any loan spells in the Championship ? It was all lower down wasn't it ? Whereas Pearce and Henry spent time at Championship clubs. Probably just a case of opportunity rather than lack of ability.

It will be interesting to see where his career goes, Spurs sounds like a real punt on their behalf. He'd be pretty much back where he was when he left us (but on more money !) as there is no way he'd be a first team starter at White Hart Lane.

Maybe not, though
Harry wants ready-made replacements not youngsters for development

If Lita was worth £1m in 2005 having scored less than Cox, then £2m, is a minimum price surely.

Gotta love the sell on clauses.

i'll try and find out this week, but think it will be the same as henderson's as we let him go on the cheap as well with a 40% sell on.

think it will be around that mark

That means, if we buy Cox for £2 million, we would get £800k back from the deal!

bargain!

Plus the 200K we sold him for - means a £2million player has actually only cost us a £1 million. Yay!!!!

If he hadn't left he'd be worth nowhere near 1 mill. Good business

Of course it won't happen - who would be stupid enough to sell a player for £200k and then spend a million buying him back?

It's (possibly) not quite as mad as it sounds.

He was not, and (at the time, being in the PL) would not have been given the opportunities to become, a £2m player at RFC. Swindon have completed his development, so if we have a sell-on clause, and (perhaps) a 1st opportunity clause in his contract, then might possible be viewed as well worthwhile "loaning" him out for a year or 2.

If he hadn't really made it at Swindon, then fine, we had made £200k plus taken a salary off the books, and would have a small extra revenue from eventual sell-on to another lower-league club.

Convincing argument? Not really. But it may have been in their thinking.

Seeing as we were going to let him go if he wanted to leave for first team football. Which (quite sensibly) he did, we'd have been daft not to try and stay on good terms with him and have a buy back clause in the sale.

If we're going to have to bring in a striker (which looks almost certain) would we pay £2m for someone else, or pay the (effective) £1m for a player who is already known to the club and who we know already fits in?

It's a no brainer to me. Not that I think signing him is very likely to happen. But I just don't see there having been a convincing arguement put forward to say definitively that we won't.

So Steve Coppell thinks Shane Long is better than Simon Cox?

Interesting.....................
