German sub sinks Exeter

Has there ever been a better Reading FC headline? (or maybe you could suggest one that never was)

German sub sinks Exeter - Uwe Hartenberger came off the bench and scored the winner for Reading to beat Exeter City.

My dad was on the Exeter in the Battle of the River Plate in 1939 and she was definately not sunk by a German sub. In fact the Exeter was sunk by Japanese aircraft in the Java Sea in 1943...... but it is a good headline.

Encounter and Pope responded by making smoke, and later attempted a torpedo attack, while Exeter returned fire, but at 11:20 Exeter sustained a major hit in her boiler room, resulting in a loss of power and slowing her to 4 knots. As the four Japanese cruisers closed in on Exeter, Encounter and Pope were ordered to make all speed for a nearby rain squall, in an attempt to shake off pursuit; wracked by gunfire, Exeter was brought to a standstill, and the destroyer Inazuma closed in for a torpedo attack. Exeter sank at 11:40, 50 miles south of Borneo.

Shame we didn't have a Japanese player as the more historically accurate headline could have been used.

It's a copy of -

'GERMANS' JAP SUB SINKS FOREST'

1979 - Euro Cup semi v Koln (?) 3-3 - Okodera (??). A rival paper ran with 'BLACK FOREST'.

Forest then shocked the world by winning the 2nd leg, which wasn't done in those days.
