Good player by all accounts and we need extra cover in defence so I say go for it.

Played central midfield in his loan spells at Southampton and Watford last season.

Would be a terrific loan signing. And let's face it, his chances at Ch£lsea are very limited.

Would love Scotty Sinclair while we're at it too.

As I said elsewhere, we don't really need him at centreback, but I'd be happy to see him replace Rosenior if Rodgers rates him. He could also cover Armstrong (though that would seem a waste) or provide some defensive midfield quality to our 2 or 3 man central midfield.

Im really hoping this happens. Would give us the physical presence needed in centre midfield, and has a fair bit of technique to.

Very excited to see who BR can bring.

What position does he play in exactly then? CB or CM?

Please let him be a tough tackling CM.

CB, CDM, or defensive-minded CM.
All positions we need.
He'd provide cover for the defense, too. Although we still have Cisse, Tabb, and Marek to go in the centre.

Ian Royal As I said elsewhere, we don't really need him at centreback

We will if/when Bikey leaves.

I still maintain Cisse is best at CB but having Cork would mean having two guys who can cover both positions.

Does that article give any indication on if we are looking to sign him or get him on loan? I can't see any real benefit in taking him on loan unless it's a loan to buy deal

thats why coppell always distrusted the loan system

its lose / lose for us really
if he does well-his club take him back and set us back a year in our search for a CB/CDM of our own
he does shit, and we dont want him anyway

Of course as usual you twist things as he may come here and do well like Salako or Watson or Little under Pardew and decide he quite likes the place and decide to stay, yet we have a get out clause if he's rubbish (which he isn't given what I've seen of him).

that is also true(and my lose lose is a tad over the top as i forgot to mention if he does well, then all the points are for us!)

though remind me of the clubs salako/watson/little were at, when we loaned them?
that makes it totally different in my eyes

just saying,IMO its pretty unlikely he'll want to stay on.

So a defensive midfielder then.

How does that differ from a defensive minded CM ?

Why do people try and over complicate a simple game....

So you think that if he does well in the Championship then Ancelotti's going to play him all of a sudden at the expense of Essien, Mikel, Lampard and Ballack?

Because it's implied that a central midfielder will occasionally get forward even if he is the defensive one of the pairing (like Sidwell and Harper), but the Makelele role is much more of a midfield 'sweeper' style role.

I agree though, it does overcomplicate it somewhat.
