FIFA don't allow the retirement of numbers (certainly for international teams - Brazil tried to retire the number 10 shirt a few years ago ... or was it Argentina... one of those) and I don't think it should be allowed either. You'd end up with stupid numbers like 92 on the back of someone's shirt like you do in America. (says he that always likes to play in the 19 shirt...)
