looks like those coming in may well be season long loans, nowt wrong with that, but does it show we still sre not going to spend very much???

Worked well for Wolves last season, a young team with loan players got them to the top around Xmas, and despite one or two going back they stayed there all season, now thay have spent a bit as the team, in their opinion would not keep them there.

Although football is still yet to feel the full impact (maybe it never will if Man City's et al's billions filter down through the system!) I think the volatility in the economy (and the sheer greed of most footballers and agents) means that SJM is very reticent about long-term contracts and wages, so I'm sure it suits his model to get season long loans at the moment where the commitment is only short-term.

He probably wonders why the hell his previous manager didn't pursue that policy!

“Unless we receive the appropriate valuation for Tommy, through the correct channels, then we intend to keep the player at the club. This I can guarantee 100 per cent.

“Reading have failed to meet our valuation of the player in question, in fact last week I labelled the bid ‘derisory’. ”

He continued: “It is with disappointment that I have read Brendan Rodgers’ comments regarding our player Tommy Smith, in the online edition of the Reading Post. I am somewhat disturbed as to how Brendan knows Tommy’s future intentions."

Ouchie!

To be honest the offer of 750k for Smith in the current market (irrespective of his age and existing contract left with watford) is taking the . Also when you look around at other deals that are currently taking palce and monies being paid!!

You have to rememebr that Smith is now in the very last year of his contract and looking to move on, so Watford have got the option of money now or maybe nothing in a year - and who knows how a badly motivated player might play, as an agent would say.....

As Brendan turned down a £1.6M offer from Cardiff for Smith in January he must have a fair idea of his worth.

Blue and White Toucan http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/reading/8138460.stm

With a team that was mid table at best since January and without seemingly adding any strength at this moment in time I could possibly go on the side of deluded!!!!

I hope to be proved wrong in the coming years though!!!!

Fair play so far.

Terminal Boardom Inspirational without a doubt. Chalk and cheese when compared with SSC. I hope that the players have the ability to embrace the philosphies being talked about. Shades of Holland and total football. Plus the concept of playing your best 11 regardless of age. Sounds as if we not only have a plan A but a B, C D and E to boot. This excites me big time!

You've changed your tune though!

Deluded? If Brendan Rodgers ever gets a Reading team to qualify for a european competition I'll give the entire squad a piggy-back to the away leg.

Good call.
