Dirk Gently I'm loath to get involved in someone elses' slanging match, but for me certainly "a million or so" implies that the million is the minimum figure, and that there might be some more, but not some less. That would be "around a million."
Fair enough, BUT IT DOESN'T TO ME or my family.
It's colloquial language and doesn't have a precise meaning country-wide. End of.
But the best bit of this stupid, pointless argument is that my post
at no time refers to Reading FC anyway and the point was Sheffield's Mickey-Mouse posturing.
A million or so = About a million = Around a million all mean the same to me.
Maybe a million means up to and including a million, but not more
A million plus = A million and a bit = a million or more
all mean more or less the same (to me) but probably less than "more than a million"
even though I recognise that £1,000,001 is, technically, "more than a million"
As I've said, I'm a professional writer. When I want to be precise (when it matters) I'll be precise
(unless imprecision pisses of Ian Royal. Then, of course, I will be as murky as humanly possible)
