Some pompey fans seem to be reasonably excited from the very few posts I saw on a link someone supplied us with/

Y25 Possibly more the work of his agent - but he must feel pretty awkward/embarrased.

I'd be amazed if a Prem club would come in for him.

I don't recall seeing the PH's agent on the sofa of Goals on Sunday

No-one will buy him because he has been sussed as being quite shit really. His performances have not stood up well to scrutiny.

Answer this one:

If you were a supporter of a Premier League club, would you be excited if your club acquired shunt?

Pompey will sign anyone with a pulse at the moment, so grab the money and run. Shunt will be their most famous pikey since Alan Biley.

Strangely I quite like Noel as a player but Stephen gets right up my **se!

A friend was told in the club shop that they would not sell new shirts with his name on and that his number was up for grabs. Can't we just get the tinkers to steal him away in the night?

This would please me immensely. Top Championship forward, very similar to Doyler (if slightly shorter as has already been noted) and surely good for 15 goals a season.

If that happens I would be amazed. I would imagine that Nugent would have to take a substantial drop in wages if he came to Reading. Depends on how desperate he is to get out of Pompey I suppose.

Brilliant bit of business if it happens, probably a load of old rubbish though.

Pompey have barely any strikers, would be surprised if they let Nugent go.

Haven't they just sold Crouch to Spurs? This rumour from the Chronic is about as accurate as most of the one's you find in UR&G on this site

It's bollocks but please let this be true.

Why would wages be a problem? You think Nugent is on more than Hunt's £30k a week?

Z175 I'm pretty sure he won't be playing.

- He doesn't fit into our pacey 4-4-3 formation - We will play two from Kebe, Robson-Kanu, Church and Long on the flanks aka Chelsea.

-Hes had not pre season so will not be match fit, Rodgers knows nothing about him having never seen him play so would hardly see him as our best option on the left.

What about Henry, you dont think he will be pushing hard for the right wing spot?

Hunt could do a pretty decent job on the left for us IF he was re-motivated and wanted to prove himself again. He has also played centre mid for Coppell a few times, and his energy and work rate might actually be a good thing to bring to the left side of the 3 in the middle

I certainly wouldnt want him to stay now as he obviously doesnt want to be here anymore and there has been too much water under the bridge

As for BR never having seen him play, what a load of tripe!!! Do you think he closed his eyes for last seasons 4-0 defeat at Madejski. Do you not think he has been to watch Reading a few times over the last few years, especially when he was at Chelsea and we were rubbing shoulders with the elite in the Premiership?

Rodgers will know his opinions on Hunt inside out. He will have a dossier on him just as he did for Doyle, and I even reckon he wouldnt mind keeping him if he thought he would then knuckle down and recapture some of his old form

Strikers are always inflated (no, I don't mean Viduka!) If Chopra can go for £4m then Nugent can't really be much less if similar prices are the yardstick. Imo, Doyle isn't worth £6.5m...

Agreed with the wages though, if the club feel they can swallow £30k a week on 'a' player - and I guess they were obviously prepared to as SHunt being on the contract he was for another few years - then swapsies for Nugent won't be so outlandish after all.

IF Hunt is on 30k a week then that is one hell of a difference to the rest of the team, probably double what any of the rest are on, and treble many, so would it be good for morale if we had another player come in, even on a swap deal, and he too was on 30k a week, I cannot see Mr Madjeski liking that sort of salary, and i would put money that the increases to Doyle and Hunt last season were only agreed as they would have been looking to pay only to the end of last season, should we fail to get promoted.

I suppose with hindsight we should have offered Sidwell more than the amount we did all those years ago to secure him long term to RFC, it sounds cheap now, was it £18k a week he wanted, for a new 2 year extension??

Er.... Cut Your cloth .... no money in pot ..... live within our means ,,,,, and all the other statements made by JM, BR, etc. You may also have noticed that quite a few other players at the top end of our wage structure where booted out before you could say 'that was a disappointing end to the season' We are in cost cutting mode and not about to commit ourselves to two or three seasons of paying out high (by Readings standard) saleries to anyone.

It wouldnt be too bad for morale IF the player was going to make a big difference to our success

Double money would have to mean a massive difference in quality though, and although I think Nugent would be excellent for us, he doesnt warrent that kind of disproportionate wage. Nor did Hunt mind, and that must piss a few players off thats for sure, although as you say, those increases were to tie them into contracts with release clauses and get them to stay to the end of the season (not sure we needed to do that with Hunt, which was good money after bad as he was already contracted to stay with a 5m release clause)
