Royal Lady Ah but Mr Bedding, people on here aren't just "talking" about him, they're planning on what the team will be like with him playing and saying how great it is that Mr Mad has actually been prepared to spend £2 million on him - until it's a done deal, it means zilch.

Oh and RR - ALOL at Jaap Stum!!

It still shows Madejski is willing to spend a large amount of money though.

Royal Rother I wonder what Doncaster's sell-on clause will be when we sell him to Arsenal for £8m in a couple of years' time.

Arsenal simply do not spend that much on English players.

I think you need to do your homework my boy. I'll think you'll find Theo Walcott cost around that sum and more with add ons, and the young lad from Cardiff last season, £5m innitally and that also increases later.

Alan Partridge Of all the things you could have used, you used that.
LOL!!!!

Agreed

But, there seems to be several 1st eleven squad numbers, including No5, that haven't been alocated and this certainly smacks of a manager who has thrown out Coppell's status quo with the bath water.

BTW, I hope Ivar makes an excellent recovery but he's had his share of cr@p performances and isn't getting any younger. This potential signing suggests to me that we are FINALLY!!!! moving on from 2005-6.

Just the fact SJM is still prepared to sanction £2m being spent one player should excite all genuine fans.

We have to trust our manager's judgement on whether (should it go threw) this proves to be a good deal but right now I'm impressed.

Coppell didn't have a number 5 last year. Sonko changed his number to 31 before he was sold. Ivar has worn 16 from day one, Murty was always going and Rosenior would have had 2. Noel and Stephen have swapped and Doyle being sold meant there was space for number 9, Lita left so 8 was free and that's been taken by Marek. These changes have precious little to do with managers, especially when the decisions on the likes of Hahnemann, Murty, Lita were made weeks before Rodgers turned up, I really don't see where you were even remotely going with that! :|

I am very surprised that having almost pleaded poverty Reading are spending £2million on someone, delighted also and he fits the bill so great stuff.

You do seem to have a habit of having a go at players who don't really deserve it, Sidwell, Shorey and now Ivar.3 players who have given fully committed and excellent service to RFC over the years. Sidwell never had a bad year, Shorey's last year he was well down on his own personal levels, but still nowhere near RFC's worst player and Ivar has been like the other two consistently good! :| If Pearce continues his development and we can bring this new guy in then it means Ivar isn't rushed back. He can ease his way back and he will certainly have a role to play next season.

Never worried about that.

Anyway, done deal or not it all means zilch in the grand scheme of all things RFC
It's just chat, no control about what's gonna happen anyway.

Er, our team in the last game last season:

Reading: Hahnemann ,Rosenior ,Pearce ,Duberry ,Harding ,Kebe (Kitson ,53 ) ,Gunnarsson ,Matejovsky (Stephen Hunt ,52 ) ,Tabb ,Church (Little ,53 ) ,Long Subs not used: Federici,Cisse,

Only 6 players from the 2005/6 season were involved in that game and 3 of them were subs. And two of them were on loan. :|

He hasn't- the club have spent some of THEIR money earned through the last 5 outgoing players- 6.5 million from doyle for starters.

I think the point he's trying to make is since that season we've slowly sold all the players and replaced them ready to re-build.

Your 'correction' is meaningless.

JM sanctions the spend, there was no statement that it was 'his' money. Although of course it is in reality....

Well yes, but if JM has got the club to a place of virtual financial self-sufficiency then the point is not entirely without merit.

I get quite fed up with the people now still insulting John Madejski, yeh okay i've maybe insulted him in the past. But its time to move on i think, just a few seasons back we were like Doncaster, who have a bloody £300k record fee! Now we've moved on, thanks to Madejski, he bloody funded our 24,000 seated stadium for god sake! He splashed out £1,000,000 on a porn star! Now if he's going to pay out £2,000,000 for someone who was bought for £300k by his current club! Fair play Mr Mad

Agreed ... People seem to forget that without Madejski there would not be a Reading FC... Certainly not one of the standard that there currently is

Really? You have to go way back to Elm Park for when that was a record fee! Were you around then?

Not just a few seasons ago, but well over a decade ago! I think before Darren Caskey came along, Lee Nogan was a joint record signing at just £250K, back in 1994/5.
