Two Possible But Unlikely Signings

by YateleyRoyal » 04 Aug 2009 23:53

My mate does some part time building work for his dad round Birmingham way and claims to have heard some rumours circulating around that region. Both are unlikely but I thought I'd post them anyway.

The first is that, despite spending around 9m on him today, Villa are prepared to loan Delph out for the season for around 1.5 mil. Apparently they would like him to step up one level to the Championship before moving to the Prem. Ourselves, Newcastle and QPR are supposedly interested.

The other is that we are in a straight fight with West Brom for the 2mil signing of Jermaine Beckford, who has supposedly pissed off Leeds hierarchy with his Billy Big Bollox attitude. The rumour is that Beckford has told the other Leeds players to be grateful to him for staying and to treat him as the main man, as there are constant offers for him on the table and he has done them a personal favour by staying. WBA are the front runners for the signing but the story goes that Beckford wants to be near London for the nightlife.

Make of these what you will

I'd rather not have Beckford at this club if thats his attitude.

Delph on loan sounds nice though

There's no way we'd PAY money for a player on loan. Maybe pay extortionate wages, but not effectively buy a season.

I'd take Beckford though.

Isn't that we did for Kitson last season?

Just to clarify, Villa want a 1.5 mil fee to loan for the season, on top of paying his wage. They apparently originally wanted 2mil but no-one would do that. This is because Villa think they paid over-the-odds for Delph, however their hand was forced due to Spurs and ManShitty sniffing around the lad

Its £31k a week, so providing we dont have to pay his wages either, i dont see the difference!?

I heard (from Stoke fans) that a fee was also paid (£500k was the amount mentioned) as well as a 100% wage contribution. It is not uncommon for their to be a loan fee.

I was under the impression that there is always a "loan fee" paid by a club to the parent club - except in some circumstances (ie young player a club want to get exp), so a fee to Villa is likely for Delph.

£1.5m for a season is a lot of money though.

We did pay £500K for Kitson.

The deal for Mills came as a shock to a lot of people on HNA (myself included). A highly rated prospect at the right age - with that in mind a deal for Beckford wouldn't be as much of a surprise to me now.

That said, and hearing BR's comments on Talk Sport this morning, I'm expecting a little more experience to be brought in. Perhaps a deal for Tommy Smith isn't totally dead, just might have to wait until the end of the transfer window for something to happen?

Just spoken to my 'souce' again (I use that term loosely) - the rumour is today that O'Neill is torn between keeping Delph at Villa for the season - bearing in mind he has to compete with the likes of Young, Downing, Sidwell, Milner, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Gardner, and the rest of the Villa youngsters - or sending him up to Geordie land for the season. Apparently he sees them as the best place for Delph to continue developing - in front of a big crowd with a team playing good football

This isn't what I think, I know Newcastle are complete toilet, this is just me telling you what I've heard.

Apparently Martin O'Neill sees something that I (and the rest of the footballing world)don't see in Newcastle United

O'Neill should ship him off to West Brom - but i doubt he'd do that.

Was at the footie league awards in 2008 when Beckford won some gong or other for this...

Whilst the goal is certainly rather special, it was Beckford's attitude that I remember most. Boy oh boy is he pleased with himself. Made Leroy look like a rather shy and humble choirboy. Let DiMatteo have the pleasure of managing that, I reckon. I really can't see Mr Mad wanting in.

Looks like Brom are in for Beckers

Wow, even I'm suprised that this is actually half true!
