SPECULATION: Ebi Smolarek

by It Is What It Is » 18 Aug 2009 16:54

This might have been shown somewhere else, but i couldnt find it...

Ebi Smolarek is without a club. He is a Midfielder. who can play wide right, Centre and as a 2nd Striker. He is a Full and current Polish International, but after Leaving Borussia Dortmund his career went T!ts up. Was on loan at Bolton for 6mnths last season. He is easily good enough for Reading and is more deadly in front of Goal then anyone we have currently. What are BR scouting staff up to? We are selling all our quality player and replacing them with what? Smith maybe? Great lets watch our club slowly dissolve into midtable mediocrity. I hope i am wrong, but with Ebi available for free, why not ? Nothing short of a Win tonight!!

Thanks to some guy on the GR site. But after half hour of researching this guy, he seems pretty decent, but then again more likely to join a slightly bigger club... but him and marek in the middle would = good times

Person who wrote that doesn't come across as especially knowlegdable, so no thanks.

Oui, a bit lazy, thinks hes a bit better than he really is, even though he is better than Ki-Hyeon ever was!

Ebi's great in biało-czerwone of the national team (top scorer for any team during Euro 2008 qualifiers, guaranteed national hero status by beating Portugal more or less by himself, when he plays poorly the team tends to lose such as every tournament the NT have qualified for since 2002)... I've never seen him do that well for any of his clubs, though, and maybe there's an element of wanting to be the star of the team. Forget his loan spell at Bolton, that was a bizarre choice for all involved - he'd never have fit into Megson's tactics and Bolton are already well served for a talisman in Kev Davies.

As I said on the Rasiak thread, he's far too big a name for us. Admittedly he's not the star he was 2 or 3 years ago, but the guy's 28, still one of the most prolific strikers in international football and can probably still get in a top Eredivisie side (he's more Dutch than Polish) or a middling Bundesliga team again. Love to see him here, but then I'd love to see Reading sign Lęwandowski, Brożek and Dudka too.
