Pseud O'Nym Cameroon won their away leg against Gabon. If they win the home leg on Wednesday then Bikey may well get his wish.

Ian Royal Thank you. I said nothing about the United Kingdom of Great Britain. About the only part of my post that can be disputed is the proportion of people who are Irish or of Irish descent over here.
Given the geographical proximity and nature, and the close historic links, IMO it makes sense to consider them a Home nation. Especially given a big chunk of their island is incontestably so.
Generally speaking, the English (and I suspect by extension the British) are quite happy to see Ireland do well agains other nations. At least that's how most people I know feel, even if they don't consider them a "home" nation.

How often did the RoI play in the Home Championships following partition?

No idea, nothing to do with it.

What makes you think it has nothing to do with HOME Championships?

Ian Royal When alls said and done, many consider them at least an honourary home nation and treat them in exactly the same way as the other teams from the British Isles.

Ian Royal When alls said and done, many consider them at least an honourary home nation and treat them in exactly the same way as the other teams from the British Isles. So the whole argument is pretty pointless, because that in effect, makes them a home nation to all intents and purposes for a significant number of people. No idea what proportion and I don't care enough to worry about calculating it somehow.

But why pander to the idiotic views of a minority of morons?

Thaumagurist* Yes, Ireland are part of the British Isles, but I don't consider them a home nation. But yes, if Ireland was to play the likes of France, Germany and Argentina, I'd be rooting for Ireland to win. Much the same could be said for ALL of the home countries. However, I'd support England over any of them, obviously.
