Yeah but had he just been transferred from Spurs? And had he been booed by those said fans for bad attitude? And did he run right up to their fans? I think you'll find the answers to all those questions is no.

He ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Spurs fans just like Adebayor did yesterday to Arsenal.

Did he? Fair enough then.

However, it's a bit different scoring for your current club against your rivals, than scoring against the club you pissed off only 3 months earlier.

Even if you've been getting stick off their players and fans ever since without you speaking out? I don't like Adebayor but Arsenal got their comeuppance yesterday.

Maybe but he deliberately did it to incite the fans. And what he did to Van Persie (who was apparently one of his only friends at Arsenal) makes me ill.

Not the best way to make friends Emmanuel.

Van Persie's needed a kicking for ages, he's always going into ridiculous tackles and getting in people's faces. If he didn't have such an attitude problem maybe he'd have improved in 5 years or however long he's been at Arsenal.

Pretty great striker though (look at his goal yesterday). No-one deserves to get stamped on like that and Adebayor will get punished accordingly.

Fairplay to him, it's the quickest i've ever seen him run! i did like all the skill he did in one corner of the field when most of the Arsenal defence tried to take him out.

I think injuries have had quite a big part to play in that, to be fair.

I'm not disputing he's a reasonable player, but he's not in the same class as some of his predecessors at Arsenal.

Mark Hughes has asked that Emmanuel Adebayor be ‘cut some slack’ after his goal celebration against Arsenal.

The Blues striker had been subjected to plenty of verbal abuse from his former followers at Arsenal before his second half strike led to a sprint down the length of the pitch and a slide in front of City fans close to where the away contingent were housed.

Adebayor, who now has four goals in four games for City, was booked for his celebration and immediately made a public apology for any trouble he caused.

Hughes later backed his summer signing who has become a big hit with Blues.

“We have to Cut Emmanuel a bit of slack,” said the manager. “He is an emotional guy and was caught up in the moment. It was a fantastic goal and great finish. He has already apologised on camera and that is the right thing to do because obviously it can be provocative.

“We just have to understand that he is an emotional guy and he wanted to share the moment with the fans in the corner with whom he has a special affinity. It is the same area that the Arsenal fans were in so there is the potential for people to see it as the wrong thing to do. We recognise that and so does Ade.”

City ended the night in third place with a perfect twelve points from twelve and have a game in hand on their nearest rivals. The manager, though, is not getting carried away.

“We will only know how significant this result is at the end of the season,” declared the cautious City chief. “But it has done us no harm whatsoever. There were a lot of eyes and focus on us and we put down another marker. It was a test and a challenge for everyone and we have come through and there will be more of those as the season progresses.

Thats absolutely insulting to any football fan. He honestly expects us to believe he was celebrating with the man city fans in the corner???? Absolute disrespectful moron.

It's rare I agree with Andy Gray but the Arsenal fans were giving him stick all match.

Laughable that they should spit the dummy when he gives a bit back.

They are giving him stick as they believe he's in the wrong for the way he acted last season.

So he'd done TWO things wrong in their eyes by coming over.
