Platypuss
Truro win the replay 7-0.

WIll be going down to York Road to see this.

... yeah sadly pretty inevitable I s'pose - Maidenhead will probably have to be at the top of their game to survive too - Truro's charge up the Pyramid continues unabated - three consecutive promotions - they are managing to tear up the Southern Premier too - so aren't that many places below the Magpies. If they can sort their ground-grading out they may well be in the Conference South next season.

Elsewhere there are two STEP06 clubs from the south still in the Cup - that's the same level as Wokingham/Henley/Newbury etc.

East Preston [Sussex Div Two] - somewhere between Worthing and Littlehampton are away at Dover Athletic - probably as a big a gap in status you could conceivably get at this stage.
Gillingham Town [Western league One] from Dorset are at home to Mangotsfield from Bracknell's division.

... the other vaguely 'local' STEP06 side London Colney from the Spartan South Midlands Div One lost 2-4 tonight in their replay at Aveley.

I think there are a couple of STEP06 in the Midland/Northern part of the draw too.

From Reading Town's League: Pegasus Juniors - won 4-1 away at Hednesford  now go to AFC Telford; Witney are at home to Eastleigh; Almondsbury Town, who beat Yate in a replay, now host AFC Totton and Flackwell Heath travel to Bromley.

In the Combined Counties League only Badshot Lea survive; their replay vs Lingfield scheduled for last night (Tue) was postponed as Cherrywood Rd, where they are 'lodgers', was waterlogged. They will try again next Tuesday 22nd.

Blimey there's a lot of Tumbleweed blowin' round on this thread - everyone too distraught at what going on at the M'Stad

..any way here's today's scores - well a few of the one's I could be bothered to dig out:-

FA CUP 2nd Qualifying Round

Brackley 0-1 Basingstoke
Maidenhead 2-5 Truro
Burnham 1-1 Aveley
Diddy 0-2 Paulton
Dorchester 4-0 Hungerford
Slough 2-0 Concord Rangers
Windsor & E 0-1 Farnborough
Hythe 2-2 Woking

Of the other STEP02 Conference South teams in the Cup today (I think) only two went out to lower opponents - Weymouth thumped 3-0 by Bishops Cleeve and St.Albans lost 0-1 @ Heybridge...

.. all 4 surviving Hellenic sides (STEP05 - Witney, Flackwell, Almondsbury & Pegasus) were beaten, some heavily, as was the last one from the Combined Counties: Badshot Lea L 0-10 @ Ashford Town (Mx)
From a quick count - Only two 'lower' ranked survivors (below STEP04) have made it in to the hat for Monday: Gillingham Town (Step06) & Aylesbury - both will need to get through replays - East Preston the lowest participant remaining from the South lost 0-8 @ Dover Athletic - who were the highest placed team of the round.

In the 'local' Leagues games:
Marlow 6-1 Soham
Yate 2-1 Bracknell
Bedfont 0-1 Sandhurst
Camberley 1-2 North Greenford
Reading Town 0-0 Shortwood

.. the rest of 'our local' clubs were in league/county Cups:
Binfield were beaten 1-6 by Slimbridge from a league below in some Hellenic Challenge tie, whilst Henley lost on penalties @ Shrivenham.

In the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup Round One wins for:
Finch, Newbury, Wokkers (vs Rabsons) & Woodley Town - mostly against lower E or N Berks/Reading/Wycombe Leagues opposition.

... and if you think its hard watching BRs lot at the moment spare a thought for any fans of Prestwood - lost their last two league games 13-0 and this w/e against STEP07 (i.e. lower) opposition in the Cup - they went one better and succumbed 14-0 to Pitstone & Ivinghoe.

Truro good side, lots of ex league players down there not sure whose chucking the money into them but along with Farnboro will be a good bet to go up again this year.

Awful from Diddy who have less consistency than Reading.

Windsor & Eton beat Paulton Rovers 2-1 in the Trophy.

We were poor for most of the 1st 80 minutes and looked like losing to pretty uninspiring opposition when their No 9 mistimed / misheaded a neat own goal for us.

That galvanised W&E but the winning goal was from a header that crashed against the bar and bounced down. I was standing just behind and slightly to the side of the goal and it never entered my head that it had gone over the line but the lino flagged for a goal.

Cue delighted chants of "If you've got a Russian linesman clap your hands..."

PS A few weeks ago I expressed delight at the signing of ex Chester / Lincoln / Hartlepool / Macclesfield / Rochdale etc. centre forward, the Reading born Marcus Richardson. I can now say that he is in fact a complete waste of space. Unfit, lazy, ponderous - how he ever made a professional footballer is completely beyond me. It's not as if he's ancient at 32 but he looks completely out of his depth. Most ex-pros who drop to Tier 8 level in their mid 30s still look a class above, this guy is hopeless. Lose a stone or bugger off would be my message.

Alan Partridge Truro good side, lots of ex league players down there not sure whose chucking the money into them

The sugar-daddy is a guy called Kevin Heaney, whose housing company (Cornish Homes) was in liquidation in 2008. IIRC the plans for a ground expansion have also been tossed out so I'm not clear where the money's coming from or how long it'll last before they go the way of Hornchurch, Colne Dynamoes, etc.

Non-League Football

by Terminal Boardom » 04 Oct 2009 20:51

After 40 years or so of watching Reading FC, from next season I will be taking my money elsewhere. Now, which non-league club would appreciate my support more? Can anyone give me any suggestions or recommendations? Any clubs to avoid and are there any crackers out there? I have been to Maidenhead a few times but never really got much of a feel for the place. What about Windsor & Eton or Bracknell? Any other suggestions? Are Woking worth watching and supporting?

Reading Town are on the rise

Top of the Hellenic League right now.

(last season was) £6 to get in, free programme, kids get in free

Reasonable bar..............seating for 125

Average crowd 50 to 100

Do not go and see AFC Aldermarston in the Wessex....bottom on 0 points

Allowing for the fixture list, you can normally watch both Reading's if you are waivering

Did the Camrose many years ago and it is one of the coldest grounds in the country. Plus, my ex wife lives in Basingstoke so no thanks!
